Just saying, it is really the only thing the game has to offer over other mmos.
The elin are the perfect race, mmos are fun in general, I could play anyone of them for 5+. The elin are just the one thing that sets this game above all the rest for me.
Not the "action combat", "political system", or... what else is there anyway?
The elin are the reason this game is great!!! Long live the elin! Long live the popori kingdom! Long live(sleep) Elinu!!
(I really need to remember the number of characters titles are limited too ~.~ )
Not saying anything bad about you. You play for whatever reasons you want.
But if I was the content designer for TERA, this thread would break my heart.
I too picked it only because of the Elins. However, a Tera without any Elins at all would still be a decent game. Because the other races have good armors as well.
But it would just be borderline better than Vindictus, which is free.
Normally I am highly opposed to playing female characters, but after viewing the other males characters in this game I had a change of heart. I almost for sure will be using an Elin for all my future characters. Also, I'm not to sure about these armor changes to Elin, but I guess they have pants now? So I feel a lot better about playing them then I did before.

Moeri found one thing that TERA has to offer that not only allowed it to stand out from the thousands of choices available but also provides an enjoyable gaming experience. A content developer's heart may be broken but that's okay because that one thing got a new player to try out their game.
Not saying anything bad about you Roda but what some people consider cake could be someone else's frosting and vice versa. Either way a good balance is needed for an enjoyable experience.
[P.S. My username is Noxillian and I am also playing this game because of the Elin]
I mean, what's the point of paying 50+ dollars for a moving picture of the Elin, when there's free private servers out there with Elins to play around with? Sure they don't have the professional support of EME, but if the content isn't what's keeping you, you can save a whole bunch of money just foolin' around as an Elin, on a private server..
And if the Elin are "the only thing separating TERA from other MMOs" what's going to happen when B&S comes out? Are you going to jump ship to try out the Lyn?
It's just confusing because, to me, buying a new MMO, with new features and mechanics, only to look at one race, is like buying an acclaimed novel for the font they use for the chapter headings...
NOTE:
I am not trying to pick a fight! o.o Heavens, no! I am totally glad that people are legitimately purchasing the game instead of using private servers, I just want to understand the reasoning behind the "only playing for the Elin" crowd...
(If you feel there is a bit of venom behind my words, it is because this mentality kind of strikes a nerve with me. I usually never try to take things personally on the forums, but because I am a very big supporter of cohesive games, I am not fond of games selling only because of one or two shallow gimmicks. And by saying Tera is only selling, to you, because of just one sliver of its awesomeness, just rubs me in the wrong direction. Any harshness is completely unintended.)

Yes, but I would make the character designers the happiest people in the world.

I want an MMO (every other one qualifies) + elin... I am not only going to be "just foolin' around as an Elin" I want to enjoy a game that has such a wonderful character

Blade & Soul was really the only direct competition for this game to me, but the Lyn do not have any real customization options and their ears are a little too large for my taste
I actually did a very intense comparison of these two games. To me it was a very hard decision.

hmm, I see so you are completely lost on how a particular race could be the major deciding factor for a person...
To me I have always wanted to be a cute little female character with animal ears, to me this is like a dream come true. Though, as amazing as it is, I cannot simply go into the game files, extract the elin, and play with them in some modeling software. I have to be able to engage with them in activities, dress them up in pretty clothes, watch them dance, watch them hit a monster over the head with a giant axe, etc.
The main point of this is that to me, I am creating a character in the game, and the game itself is just a way for me to interact with that character, and spend tiem with that character. To me, games are generally more character focused. I get my enjoyment from watching my character accomplish goals... to me it is more like getting happiness from my character's happiness... so if they removed the little "yay" animations from the game ... it would more drastically decrease the enjoyment I get from the game itself.

I have no problem with your posts, though they did seem a little aggressive. I can understand why you would be mad about "shallow gimmicks." Though, your reason for agitation is now known and can be understood, which puts us all in a much better situation.
I hope you were able to understand a little of how I approach tera, and hope that it does not upset you too much. I do not know if this view is what is shared among my fellow "only playing for the Elin" crowd members, but I hope this will atleast shed some light onto how one of them approaches the game.
P.S.
Also, thanks for the questions. These really made me think about the differences in the community members and how I am approaching the game as opposed to other people. It was actually a fairly enlightening experience.
P.S.S.
It toolk me over 30 minutes to write this post because I was stopping to think/ editing/ and all sorts of things. Huge wall of text :x

Already tried Blade and Soul (and yes, Lynn is awesome). The thing about Blade and Soul however is that it has *heavy* asian mythology and art-styles throughout the game down to the core of the combat. It's doubtable that that game would even function with the westernization zealousness that's been brought down on Tera here. It's a good game to play if your not offended/afraid of different cultures or art-styles in video-games.
By all means, there is nothing wrong with playing as Elin as a reason for playing Tera. Just as those interested in Tera because of the Castanics.
I've looked at B&S and if I wanted action combat, it seems like just as good a choice as Tera. But but the armor selection is terrible. Not a single armor I'd like to wear, and a game without armors to wear, is a game not worth playing.
And don't worry about being rubbed the wrong way. I have the opposite feeling that anyone who picks a game for the game play, is someone that will just sit and whine on the forums about "This and that is unbalanced!" and in game they'll all be "What, you don't have +12 swords? Well, we are replacing you with a real player and not a lazy bum".
I'm not saying Elins are the only reason why I play TERA, but it is a huge part of why I love the game so much (。・ェ・。) ♥
I always played a tarutaru and a lalafell in the FF online games~ So maybe I just love cutsie characters... but TERA has a wonderful combination of cute AND badass races to pick from! I just love the diversity!
