Pedobear's reply to criticiscm: The Elins

It seems that a portion of the male population in Tera seems to find a huge problem with having an anime-ish styled race that represents young girls. Why? I have no clue. But from what I have seen, the general consensus is that:

1. They're little girls. Only pedophile's will play them.

And honestly, that's the biggest concern that I've I seen. Personally I find this to be unfounded. But then again, what do I know. Instead, I've decided to enlist the help of trusty scientific paper to back me in order to do my own analysis on the general perception of this controversial race.

In the research involving homophobia. Those who tend to have more of an objection against homosexuality happen to show more arousal to acts of homosexuality. This extreme rejection seems to be repression of positive feelings towards homosexuality. So if we take this research and apply in this case we discover this:

The more adamant that someone is against Elins for their looks is most likely attributed to their repression of arousal to Elins. In other words, if they could fap to sprites that look like children they probably would. But of course, they believe that this is quite horrendous and is socially unacceptable. And in order to prove to themselves that they do not hold these beliefs, they make sure out-lash at subjects such as the childish qualities of the Elin.

I believe that this could account for the general discontent with this race. If you wish to my full scientific paper on this subject. You can find my article in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, issue 8.

As a side note, trolls are welcome. In fact, troll as hard as the people who hate Elins get when they see them.

Also as a side note, they really do have big hips don't they. I never really noticed it until people pointed it out.

i agree with the above, not just for this "issue" but for many things in society.

Lol, it's funny because it's totally true. When people have these huge disapprovals over something like that, something must be wrong. Why not complain to the people that allow their children to look like mini skanks in the streets. I mean in all honesty, the characters don't even look that offensive. =\

I totally whole hardily agree with what the OP wrote. Of course those who feel strongly against the Elin's will deny having these feelings, but let's face it.. If you would not think that way, what would be wrong with ppl playing as Elin's.. One thing to consider is that some of the 'protesters' are still very young or at least their mind, so what does one expect.. really...

Sorry OP, but you cants always draw one conclusion from a separate one, even if the issues are somewhat related. It's like saying that most people who are opposed to murder are more likely to go out and start murdering everyone.

My issues with a lot of Elin players has nothing to do with them playing Elin. They're adorable little cat / bunny / chipmunk girls and that's fine and dandy.

The issue is that people get super defensive about the fact that the Elin look like children. "But they have wide hips and thick thighs!" Well, thats creepy to give a flat chested, waist high girl with a baby face and child mannerisms sexual characteristics.

"But the lore says they are thousands of years old!". Well ... Sorry, they still look like children and your defenses sound like the reactions of a guilty conscience.

None of this would be an issue if people also weren't saying how they have no sexual desire for these child-like avatars, but then turn around and demand they revert the models back to having thongs and lingerie.

If you're attracted to little girls in bikinis and lingerie, just either say it or don't bring it up in any way. You'll never convince anyone you are not pedo by demanding these children avatars have super sexualized clothing reinstated in the game, no matter how much mental gymnastics you attempt to do

Those wanting censorship in video-games are those who do not like anime to began with or asian mmo's. Most of them stuck just playing western-only made games and that's it. The very little mmo's they had experience with they didn't like for whatever reason, some of it simply because of the art-style. They hate Anime, they hate the otaku culture, they whine about anything that isn't stupid shows like "Friends" or some other lame boxed-in shows. Pretty much like going to a horror-movie film for horror-fans then complaining about the amount of blood in the show just for the sake of censorship.

Or twilight fans about the relationship between the female and male protagonist of the books for censorship.

Because these type of players are stuck in the SNES era. They think every game that comes out on the market has He-Man characters in it and sweaty shirts, that only "males" play video-games and no one else. Companies can be stuck in SNES era too when it comes to video-game. Some are, others aren't depending on the publishers. Suddenly video-game characters are real-life beings.

Well if your characters are actually real, breathing beings then there's an obvious problem here with your marketing. Real-Life beings shouldn't be "hit" or "killed" inside a video-game, since after-all that would be first-degree murder and man-slaughter.

You bring up an interesting point Skele as these same gamers (if that's what they call themselves) probably are ones that would complain about BioWare having homosexual characters(wanting them censored or taken out). Unlike EME however bioware finally came out and said that these characters are in the game, and that their here to stay. Which i'm glad they did instead of the typical way of which games were created. Boxed in within 4-white walls.

What we have here is a contradiction to every single game, community, and show out in exsistance in the U.S. market right now. Fans of the Otaku genre completely disregarded and given the worst, if not, the *worst* customer service out of this entire game.

Then the elin animu-hater fanatics running about thinking because a video-game got censored for their own biggot contradictory POV that this applies to every single game that existed before Tera, as though they never existed in the U.S. at all. Freedom of expression has been ruined, entire communities have been labeled (Toadster aka "Frogster" is a culprit of this) in some spazz spree of witch-huntings similar to what happened to GTA.

Thing about the Otaku culture is that we've been more friendly to the Homosexual/Lesbian/Bisexual communities while these guys that complained about elin would probably still cringe about it("Oh nue male-elf is too feminine!") and that was before Lady GaGa appeared in U.S. We're not afraid of creativity or originality, or different things than the "standard norm" of typical western shows. Certainly when it comes to games or shows because their simply that, games and shows. Check out "Black Butler" which has homosexual relationships in it and is available here in U.S.

Back in SNES era however? Bio-Ware wouldn't have even existed with their decisions. Tera itself is not even hentai (which is the 18+ stuff) not even K-Tera. So now you have two different genres completely mixed up and put into the same category too.

Now when I look at Sword Girls Online like the picture above, then hundreds of different legally licensed titles and games in the U.S. it makes it even more clearer than the entire censorship was nothing more than a stupid reaction to a knee-jerk puritan "gaming" community off of WoW or SWTOR. And that game is advertised all over Facebook, btw. I kid you not.

http://www.swordgirlsonline.com/wblpregister.php

Now Tera itself has been subjected into a box of censorship because the publishers put the game into one. Can't see elin, no, she's hidden! And if you do see the character it'll be her backside or the censorship videos. It's just going to be pretty sad for this game that can't half-tell it's story without having to hide one of it's second-mascots in the entire game. That includes loading-screenshots or if BHS decides to snipe Elin out of Tera all-together in future updates, regardless if she was a supporting character and part of Tera's Storyline.

I really would have loved to see this character developed, what would happen to her(and the other elins) but under this riggid puritan b.s. this game has been subjected to by its own publishers that probably will never happen.
