They won't give you the option to have the original armour because doing so admits that their designs are bad. No one likes to admit that their "hard work" is of poor quality.
That being said, I don't mind the shorts in concept, I just wish they would fix the clipping and change the textures on them. Some of the panties, while panties, had really interesting textures and accents where as the copy pasted shorts do not. It just would have been nice to see some effort put into the redesign. Perhaps they could ask for community modders to help with retexturing. Look at open-source games like Skyrim, the modding community quite often is capable of making better content than Bethesda.

It's called choice EME. Give it back to the players. You have nothing to lose by creating a toggle, but everything to gain from it.

It is much less about the actual clothing, and more about how it is being done.
Like you have a company ignoring historical evidence that original armors are accepted in society, based on amateur opinions about if someone could claim it is six year old girls.
You have a company forcing their opinion of Elins down your throat, instead of allowing you to choose version.
And in my opinion the worst part is the hypocrisy. No complaints about REAL CHILDREN at the beaches, but more clothed pretend children in a game is a problem. In addition you can kill the children all you want in PvP, and nobody cares, because it isn't real. But god help us if someone sees pretend panties.
Though it is of course rivaled by the fact the company ignores the community feedback, because they are too lazy to appeal to a wider market, while they are busy marketing their game as "aimed at a wider market".

Actually there was a recent commercial that was pro-green/taking care of the environment and people complained about the little girl being shown in a bikini.
I also do not put my little girls in bikinis.
