How to stop being a RP elitist?

I'll probably get mauled for even mentioning that I am, but by nature, I am a Forum RPer, and thus can't stand some of the RP I am seeing in game. I cringe and immediately move my character away from the people who are RPing like this, which leaves me off with little to no RP. Most of which I see is horrifically illiterate and makes no effort to write much anything at all, let alone capitalize or use punctuation.

It's painful enough for me to have to see asterisks being used since EME hasn't implemented an /e function, but I'm desperate for RP and I just simply loathe these people without reason.

I've tried to force myself to RP with them, tried to endure it, tried to be nice and brush off their literature slaughtering, but I can't. ; ___ ; I feel the immediate need to flee the RP asap, and do so by making my character leave in some urgent way, usually by having a friend drag them off ICly.

I really feel awful that i'm so judgmental since people are trying to just "have fun" with their RP, but I'm just.. peeved beyond reason.

Can someone give some advice for how to avoid feeling like I need to go read a good book to repair my poor mind from the whole "*desu-fox-dragon-inuyasha-chan waves* hi how r u ?? r u turned on 2? u wan t a drnk? " .... -Weeps forever, crawls off to safety corner.-
Edited by: Reichu 12 months ago - Reason: I feel I should mention: I don't flee if I see a typo, spelling error, or someone forgets a comma, I know we're humans, not robots, humans make mistakes. I just would like to see -some- effort put into the RP I participate in.

Every game with RPers in it needs the "elitists:" otherwise all we're left with are the "*desu-fox-dragon-inuyasha-chan waves* types as you so eloquently put it. Though some people pretty much walk into berserking Lore-N*** dictator at the drop of a mere thought that goes against their own speculations of the lore.

I too mostly stick to forum role-play, by the way. If I ever start a thread, I like to lay down some ground rules.

I don't mind some lore breakage, it's not that that bothers me, it's the lack of effort they put into the posts themselves. I feel if you're not willing to capitalize, punctuate, or add more than a *smile* per emote, then you don't feel inclined to put effort into your character, and thus why should I put effort into RPing with them...?

I still feel really bad for it, but it seems to be a mindset I can't get out of. @ _ @.

I like you. Don't ever feel bad about having standards. So long as you don't impede on what they consider fun, there's no reason to feel guilty for not wanting to RP with them. The game is about having fun and if you aren't finding a particular scenario enjoyable, you have every right to remove yourself from it. You shouldn't have to force yourself to endure what you consider to be terrible RP :P

And believe me, there are plenty of us in game who put quite a bit of thought and effort into our RP and our posts. You just have to wade through the animu crap to find it, lol.

Yeah, I never say "Wow, you really suck, try capitalizing", lol. I know some people RP the way they want to RP, I just personally cannot fathom how they enjoy it, but keep quiet nonetheless.

I'm glad so far people haven't jumped me for it. @ _ @ I was expecting the whole "BE ACCEPTING GET OFF THE GAME JEEZE." posters. ; n ;

Thankyou.

No way. It's just a different level of RP. That's what we call Casual or Light RP. Not much thought put into posts or spelling, use of emotes in RP, etcetcetc. What you're looking for is the more heavy RP. It's out there, you just have to look for it. I'd suggest looking for a guild that labels themselves as a Heavy or Hardcore RP group.

This...is kind of why I haven't tried RPing on CH yet. I really don't know how to jump into game RP'ing. I've only ever done forum RP'ing, where you sit there and type out more than a few words as description of what you're doing and saying, heh.

I've seen quite a bit of this rampant syntax molestation on CH. Mostly in Velika. A little bit in Lumbertown.

If having grammar standards makes me an elitist then I guess I'm an elitist. I don't think that it does, though. I think Rezzuhl said it right, though. Don't feel bad for having standards. Perhaps a heavy RP guild will do right by you. Or just keep on the lookout for good Roleplayers. I'm in ED and some people don't really RP ever in this guild but we have a good bunch that not only RP consistently but RP extremely well. Para-posters with well thought out descriptions and excellent back stories.

I actually wrote the background story for my main character and it was only supposed to be a short intro. Turned into 20 pages and made the forums QQ with posting size XD.

There's good writers out there. Keep your eyes open =)

Not to be rude or anything, but there are players who dislike reading "walls of text". Also, I take role playing seriously, but I dislike posting in paragraphs and whatnot. I wouldn't like to be labeled as "casual" or a "light rp'er" just because I don't type large walls of text whenever I post.

I'm not saying that casual/light rp'ing doesn't exist but some players actually do rp in small text seriously.

I believe he's referring to "one liners" as I call them. Where you make a well thought out and detailed post and they respond with "*nods*" or "Oh that's nice" or even "WOW u r so awsum!"

He didn't mention para-posting. I did.

I also don't label anyone "casual" or "Heavy". I'm in favor of less self-segregation. You either RP or you don't. You either write well or you don't.
