Missing Essential Roleplay Element?

Moved from the EU forums, since the activity there is quite amusing. (Original thread: https://forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=49222) Please bear with the bad-looking layout here on the US forums. I would appreciate it, if you read the thread. It should interest you greatly if you are looking to roleplay on TERA.

To all roleplayers out there! I don't know where the hell you have been roleplaying, but where I did we had a slash(/) me command (and more).

It's damn essential to say at least.

I wonder how this has not yet passed my ears. To be honest, I have never roleplayed much in MMO's. For roleplay, I have been in communites and games with their primary focus on it. I have not looked too much into the RP here on Tera, so please do correct me if I stand wrong!

I know that the most of you are familiar with the /me command from playing WoW, as they have that feature as well.

I don't see the reason why Tera should not have a /me command. I hate to compare Tera with WoW, but I will do so this time since most people don't know many other games. In WoW we have the /me command available to us. Roleplayers can use it as they like, and those who don't roleplay.. Well, they didn't even know they had it. It's a win win situation to add it, and it is fairly easy to do so as well.

I have added an objective poll too.

Facts below

For those who don't know what (slash me) is:

It is a CMD that lets you describe an action.
Here is an example:
/me slowly shakes his head, sighing at [insert name here].

This will appear in the chat like this:

[Your name] slowly shakes his head, sighing at [the written name].

This is how you create roleplay. As you can write things yourself, the possibilities are endless. And this is exactly what defines roleplay.

A more complex command, is the slash(/) do comand.

This differs from the slash me command, by the fact that the slash me command describes an action committed by your character, where the slash do command is used to describe the effect of an action, surroindings or to communicate into an agreement between roleplaying parties.

Here is one example of each above mentioned:

1) The description of an effect of an action.

First the slash me command, then the slash do:

[Written like this:]
/me slowly raises his hand, just to switly crush it down onto his plate.
/do The fork and meat that was located on the plate gets wiped off the table by the impact.

2) The description of surroindings.

[Written like this:]

/do [Insert your name]'s cape gets lifted by the steady wind.

Another example:

/do The purse contains a few coins and a small note.

3) Communication between two (or more) roleplaying parties.

/me stuffs his right hand into his pocket and takes out his purse.
/me opens his purse and extends his hand forward, toward [insert name of a person here].
/do The purse is in the center of [my character's name]'s palm. Now that it is open, the content is visual to you.

Other player responds like this:

/me glances toward the content of the purse being offered to him.
/do What does [name of his character] see?

I here resond again:

/do You see [choose whatever content you'd like to have in your purse for this roleplay.]

Etc.

If you still don't know what I am on about, try to visit this guide I made once:
(Note: this guide was not designed for MMO games, but still works for it)

I agree, I wish these commands where available. I have never played WoW, but I have played a game called Planeshift, which is heavy on roleplay.

I would also suggest a /my command added to that list.

Example:

/my weapons are pulled out from her sheath as she readies to attack

Brabbit's weapons are pulled out from her sheath as she readies to attack

/my hair sparkles and glistens as water runs through it

Brabbit's hair sparkles and glistens as water runs through it

I suppose you can do that with the /do command, but the /my command would help to make it easier to do that.

Thanks for the response.

This is what /do does. The differnece is that /do can be used in a lot more ways as well.

As I wrote in the the first post, there are three ways to use it.

The main difference is that /me describes your action, where /do describes a situation.

Just like your examples: (Extremely simple ones here)

/me waves. = *Phosphia waves.

/do The purse contains four gold exactly. = *The purse contains four gold exactly. (Phosphia)

Its other uses are as said, stated above.

Right, but that would be the same situation with the /me command. The /do will work for everything.

Such as:

/me looks around
/do Brabbit looks around

The whole point of the /me is so you do not have to type your own name and makes it easier, just as the /my command would.

When the sentence is executed, you will with ease be able to tell the difference between an action command, and a do command because they look different once displayed.

[Typed:]

/me looks to her left.

[Displayed:]

*Phosphia looks to her left.

[Typed:]

/do The purse contains only few gold coins.

[Displayed:]

*The purse contains only few gold coins. ((Phosphia))

You can see it a little more clearly in this guide, from a SAMP community:

Oh ok .. I see what you mean

But still think a /my command would be useful. They have that in Planeshift. While yes you can still do it with /do .. it's still easier with a /my

[Typed:]

/do Brabbit's ears twitch to the sound

[Displayed;]

*Brabbit's ears twitch to the sound. ((Brabbit))

[Typed:]

/my ears twitch to the sound

[Displayed:]

*Brabbit's ears twitch to the sound.

You may have misread my comment or I may have typed it wrong.

I find it very important that we have the /me command too. It is the most important one. I'd like to see both of the two I mentioned in my other post.

I don't think that any of the two can do both roles.

We need the most essential command, like they have it everywhere: /me.

However, I would be pleased to see the /do command, for enhanced roleplay. That command is used in more advanced roleplay communites, such as the SAMP, which I have been a part of for four years.

I must say, I am no longer sure of what you disagree with. Please elaborate? (:

/me is used to explain something you, yourself, is doing
Such as /me sits comes out to be Brabbit sits.

/do is used for something you, yourself, is not doing
Such as /do The sky becomes cloudy comes out to be The sky becomes cloudy ((Brabbit))

/my is used to explain something that is yours is doing.
Such as /my dogs sits comes out to be Brabbit's dog sits.

Not sure how else to explain that.

I see what you mean. But I don't see why you would need /my when you have /do.

[Typed:]

/do Phosphia's hair is continuously blown back by the wind.

*Phosphia's hair is continuesly blown back by the wind. ((Phosphia))

Many people also tend to simply use the word 'my', even though you shouldn't go first person in these commands. I don't really mind it though.

Example:

/do My cape continuesly slaps to the plate as the steady winds..(...)

*My cape continuesly slaps to the plate as the steady winds..(..) ((Phosphia))

"We currently have /emotes in TERA and we are working on a list of game features to enhance your roleplay experience. Just like all game feedback we are evaluating and prioritizing getting it in the game."

Not to worry. We'll be getting our commands updated soon enough :).
