Moved from the EU forums, since the activity there is quite amusing. (Original thread: https://forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=49222) Please bear with the bad-looking layout here on the US forums. I would appreciate it, if you read the thread. It should interest you greatly if you are looking to roleplay on TERA.
To all roleplayers out there! I don't know where the hell you have been roleplaying, but where I did we had a slash(/) me command (and more).
It's damn essential to say at least.
I wonder how this has not yet passed my ears. To be honest, I have never roleplayed much in MMO's. For roleplay, I have been in communites and games with their primary focus on it. I have not looked too much into the RP here on Tera, so please do correct me if I stand wrong!
I know that the most of you are familiar with the /me command from playing WoW, as they have that feature as well.
I don't see the reason why Tera should not have a /me command. I hate to compare Tera with WoW, but I will do so this time since most people don't know many other games. In WoW we have the /me command available to us. Roleplayers can use it as they like, and those who don't roleplay.. Well, they didn't even know they had it. It's a win win situation to add it, and it is fairly easy to do so as well.
I have added an objective poll too.
Facts below
For those who don't know what (slash me) is:
It is a CMD that lets you describe an action.
Here is an example:
/me slowly shakes his head, sighing at [insert name here].
This will appear in the chat like this:
[Your name] slowly shakes his head, sighing at [the written name].
This is how you create roleplay. As you can write things yourself, the possibilities are endless. And this is exactly what defines roleplay.
A more complex command, is the slash(/) do comand.
This differs from the slash me command, by the fact that the slash me command describes an action committed by your character, where the slash do command is used to describe the effect of an action, surroindings or to communicate into an agreement between roleplaying parties.
Here is one example of each above mentioned:
1) The description of an effect of an action.
First the slash me command, then the slash do:
[Written like this:]
/me slowly raises his hand, just to switly crush it down onto his plate.
/do The fork and meat that was located on the plate gets wiped off the table by the impact.
2) The description of surroindings.
[Written like this:]
/do [Insert your name]'s cape gets lifted by the steady wind.
Another example:
/do The purse contains a few coins and a small note.
3) Communication between two (or more) roleplaying parties.
/me stuffs his right hand into his pocket and takes out his purse.
/me opens his purse and extends his hand forward, toward [insert name of a person here].
/do The purse is in the center of [my character's name]'s palm. Now that it is open, the content is visual to you.
Other player responds like this:
/me glances toward the content of the purse being offered to him.
/do What does [name of his character] see?
I here resond again:
/do You see [choose whatever content you'd like to have in your purse for this roleplay.]
Etc.
