Good morning SI
Happy Tuesday, I'm doing a little happy dance, as my kids are almost done school for the summer. Hooray.
Anyways, the question today, how do you feel about Chronoscrolls? Are you for, against, or indifferent?
I think it's an interesting idea, as we all know there's gold buying in the game, else the websites wouldn't exist. This way, the company makes more money (EME), and less accounts get hacked/stolen.
I realize this is a very touchy subject, but I'd like honest opinions from everyone. It's always good to read how other people think about stuff like this.
Enjoy your Tuesday!

They're a proven method to curb gold sellers that has worked in EVE Online.
I don't like the end result, but it's a small price to pay to legitimize an activity that will go on anyway. It keeps real world fraud out of the game and will hopefully reduce gold seller spam. I can get behind that.
EME does not make more money from Chronoscrolls. Each 15.00 scroll bought REPLACES the 15.00 subscription fee someone else would be paying. So EME makes the same amount in the end. They're just facilitating the gold buying transactions between players themselves, instead of letting a bunch of Chinese people control it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they play out, and hope they are a success. I think the constraints they have on them, limiting how many you can sell in a week, and making them only transferable once are very intelligent. The only thing I'm not sure about is if you can server transfer with them, then people might take advantage of that if the price for one varies a lot between servers.
Oh, I'm not denying that. You can also argue that they'll profit a bit from people whose sub fees are the lower inaugural pricing using a chronoscroll so EME gets the full 15 instead of the 9.99 or whatever lower price the person has. But those are more tangential benefits to EME from the system.
I just see a lot of the people against Chronoscrolls yelling about how it's just another excuse for EME to suck money from the playerbase, like the cash shop. They seem to think EME is going to be making tons of money off of them, and I don't think that's the case.
I am for it, people will buy gold anyways and for someone like me who has limited time to play as is I would be more tempted to buy one and sell it to make up for my lack of ability to farm for hours.
I think chronoscrolls will be good not only for EME but for the player base as well. There people out there who although loves the game might have had a hardship and cannot afford the monthly subs. This will help them to stay on board and continue playing. Personally I don't want to see a friend have to quit because he lack the funds and have no option to continue. Plus more players staying is a benefit to both EME and us the players. Lets face it either way gold buying will happen so long as there is a demand for gold at least this way the profit is on our side and not some shady out of the country business,
I think it's silly that you can circumvent having to play the game. People with a hundred bucks to spend will easily be decked out in T13 Masterwork gear in a few days, tops, while others will spend months working for them.
There's already lots of reports (however I cannot attest to their legitimacy) of people simply being suspended/banned for farming in one spot. I doubt these are true, but it's likely that there's already anti-botter tools already. I've seen one gold farmer since my time playing this game and the experience was very ephemeral as he was quickly gone.
I believe this is just a way for EmE to justify making a lot of money. That being said, if you're super-mega-ballin' rich you can play the game for free from now on, which I intend to do.
I disagree with the system, but it's at least tolerable. There are clear upsides, but I don't feel like they negate the downsides.
