Good morning SI;

I hope your week is going well.

If you had to chose one authour that you'd want everyone to experience, who would it be and why?

I would chose Clive Barker. I love the mans work, a lot of times its a cross between erotica, and horror. I love his paintings. I loved the video game that he did. I have a bunch of the 'action figure' dolls he did - Tortured Souls, The Infernal Parade - each comes with a short mini story. Something about him speaks to me on a primal level I guess. I love everything he does that I can get my hands on. Give me a day reading Clive Barker, and listening to Chris Cornell, and I'm in heaven.

How about you?

I'd choose Jack Kilborn/JA Konrath (same author, 2 pen names). He has the same flair with a pen as early Stephen King while weaving you down some of the most insane rides of horror, death and disgust you could ever find. Trapped, Afraid and Origin were among his best solo novels. It's rare to pick up a book at the store and see "Editor's Cut" or "Extended" version of the same book later, especially when you read the cut version and have to ask "what other lines did he have to cross to get it cut from this edition?".

He also has a thrilling series about a detective named Jack Daniels who catches some seriously strange serial killers and in the end, faces off against the most deadly one ever created by a different author (Blake Crouch).

The first book of Jack's that I read was Trapped and it drew me in faster than I could have thought possible. The pretense was fairly weak to start and I was expecting Sy-Fy Original Movie level quality from a book about "kids and their counselors travel to an old island and are hunted". The fiery passion that he wrote his scenes with for the hunt drew me in as a fellow author and I was doomed to stay after I finished the book and saw the author's note stating that some scenes were cut because they were deemed too much by his editor.

I don't think that I could pick just one, but if I had to it would either be Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft.

There really is only one author worth reading: David Gemmell.

David Gemmell for me is the equivalent of Jesus for a devout Catholic. His books have influenced many of my decisions in life. Druss is my bible.
