Hi SI =)

Todays question, brought to you by the ever awesome Malaise, is -

What is your favourite gaming moment/memory?

I have so many, but one I can think of now, is watching it rain for the first time in Elwynn Forest, when they patched the weather into WoW.

Another would be getting the Erase spell on my white mage in FFXI, from the BCNM. We had our linkshell come together, and use our beast seals, and ran it till it dropped.

Good times, good times, how about you?

******Xenogears SPOILERS***********

When you first realize that the true enemy is a synthetic diety manufactured by your highly advanced ancestors as the ultimate weapon to fight an unknown enemy. It's been been controlling all of humanity for thousands of years for the sole purpose of using life as spare parts to repair itself from the massive damage it suffered when its creators realized it was too dangerous to keep alive and so tried to abandon it in space, but ultimately had to try to destroy it after it became active on its own.

Epic.

I have had so many in a lot of dif games but the one that still makes me lol when I think about it most was in aoc.

We had a guy in our guild in age of Conan that never spoke in vent. I mean never said a word he would be in vent and listen to us but always typed out what he said in guild chat. We just assumed he did not have a mic. When they released Aoc it was horrid launch I mean reallllllly bad launch but instead of fixing a lot of the bugs at first they added nipples onto the nude female characters.

Yes I said nipples lol ….
I
was standing in the middle of one of the towns watching all the guys jump up and down on their now topless toons and listening in vent as they giggled like little girls at it (grown men btw). We were all laughing at the tons of nude females in the game, when in logged our silent friend. we watch as he logs into the game and about 2 minutes after his name pops up in guild, We hear a squeal and this voice yell " OMG I have nipples and they bounce"…. he laughed and carried on for about 20 minutes. He then realized the entire vent (about 20 of us) had gone silent listening to him.

I am not sure about the rest of them in vent but I was actually in tears laughing at him going on about nipples on a digital character. I know it seems stupid to most but I guess ya had to be there.

He never spoke again in vent after that but at least we knew he had a voice lol.

Wydow, I love that story!

For me it is really silly: The original Dungeon Keeper when I realized that Imps trained to level 10 could teleport. I was clapping and squealing like a little girl.

I still love that game more than any other.

Mine would be playing Mortal Kombat 1 on a Sega GameGear during my school holidays when I was a kid. I was staying at my Great Grandmothers house during winter. She lived in a 10 bedroom, very old house. It started snowing early in the morning and I remember being told I had to stay inside as I had a cold. There wasn't much to do inside but my cousin owned a GameGear and one game - Mortal Kombat. My Great Grandmother cooked us hot soup for lunch and we sat by the fireplace and played that game all day long. Though I'd played a lot of other games growing up, I think my love for games came from that day.

Another fond memory is when I was around 16 and a group of my friends all went camping together. We were shooting feral animals, riding motor bikes, eating junk food and having a blast. That night we found a forest on this huge farm my friend owned and set up our tents. One of my friends threw a can of baked beans into the fire and it exploded, throwing coals onto our tents. They burned holes into the fabric - then an hour later it poured down rain. This was around midnight - so we grabbed our gear and rode for an hour in the rain back to his parent's homestead. They had a huge house but we all stayed in the lounge room by the fire, trying to dry ourselves. Then my friend plugged in his Super Nintendo and we played F-Zero right through until lunch. I was exhausted but the game was a blast with a group of mates. Good times.

Wow, great question. I have so many moments that are really memorable its hard to narrow it down to even a few. I could write a novella on this, but I will try to stick to just the one that is most special to me.

When Goldeneye came out a buddy of mine lent it to me for a week in the summer just to share its awesomeness. Two of my brothers, who are not gamers by any stretch, sat down to try it out with me. We played at least 20 hours straight, and really bonded for the first time since we were little kids. We were so instantly addicted to playing the game together that we all asked for it for Christmas. My ma tends to buy things way way early, and one of my brothers spotted hercarrying it into the house about a week later. This was around June, so we obviously couldn't wait until Christmas. Employing some 007 maneuvers of our own, we found the game and replaced the cartridge with another n64 game.

We thereafter started almost every summer day playing Goldeneye together. When we got a bit stir crazy, we went out and did things together, which we ordinarily never would have done. It sounds cheesey, but that video game really brought the three of us together, and that remains one of the best summers of my life. One of those brothers is no longer with us, which just makes it all the more poignant for me.

Does it count as a moment if it lasts a summer?

Aww, thanks Orchid. And to think, I almost went with the "repetitively-hitting-pause-during-Chun-Li's-spinning-bird-kick-in-SFII-to-get-a-peak-at-her-goodies" story.
