I didn't really plan on playing this game. I think the best thing that En Masse could have done is exactly WHAT they did. They really had no interest in pimping their game to exhorbitant proportions. They did just the right amount of advertising and interviews. They didn't label the game as a WoW killer or anything ridiculous like that. They stayed in the background working on ironing out a solid game. Really, the only thing I had any interest playing was Diablo 3. I'm an ARPG nut. I bought this game on a whim on Friday and thus far, I haven't had this much fun playing an MMO in a very, very long time.
I had a blast playing RIFT. I still think RIFT is a solid game. One of the better ones out there, but the way this market works kind of screwed Trion. That being said, I have to say how increidbly surpirsed I am with this game. It feels new, exciting, different, dynamic and fresh. Sure, it's another in a long list of MMOs where the questing seems repetitive, but MMOs aren't the only genre that suffer from this. It's just the genre that seems to take the most heat because of this.
So, D3 is coming, and while I'm a complete APRG fan, Tera, I think, is going to end up being a permanent stay for me. And I'm really happy with the server I chose as well. Seems like a good group.
I educated myself on the Bluehole v. NCSoft lawsuit. I WAS looking forward to GW2, but after having read that, I can't stand behind NCSoft anymore. I'm a gamer with conviction (for the most part - usually), and in this current corporate climate with scumbag corporations running amok of the law, mismanaging money, being shady as hell, and usually totally disregarding what the common man would call "good morals", NCSoft just entered the long list of scumbags along with the likes of JP Morgan, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, etc. I don't care what side of the political spectrum you vote on. Scumbag is scumbag.
That being said, is anyone else like me? Is Tera a permanent fixture in your gaming? What kind of impact did the Bluehole/NCSoft (NCSoft basically tried to black ball a western release of Tera) debacle have on your decision to play or not play GW2?
Oh and hi.
