There is nothing more fun than joining hundreds of other players on a killing rampage across half a continent. The scale is epic, and the mobs are like the ocean's waves crashing against cliffs. It is quite an achievement in terms of gameplay and design idea. The feel is bar none.
However, the technical side of things is the complete opposite. I don't know how many players out there have awesome spec-tacular gaming rigs with 3-4+ cores running at 3.2+ ghz, but they are lucky. The great idea loses every shred of it's charm after demolishing the frame rate.
Without a playable frame rate, a lot of players are going to have to sit out on the Nexus raids. That is a tragedy.
In my own experience, I lowered everything down to preset one and was barely able to participate. I use an AMD II x2 220 (2.8 ghz) (which needs to be upgraded, especially now that Nexuses have begun) and a Radeon HD 6790, which can handle anything GPU-related that this game requires. I ran at 7-9 fps on preset one.
I could be completely wrong in assuming that the lag correlates to the specs though. Perhaps it was server lag instead?
But even though all of this was hampering me, I enjoyed it immensely. It turns out that my guild was in a GvG war with another (Prophecy vs Revolt) and we had to battle Revolt along with the Nexus monsters. Once I got into the flow of things and acclimated to severe frame stutter, I had a blast. I can only imagine how awesome it would be to play with a nice 20 -30 fps.
I have never played a game with elements of this scope. It had such an intensity which I can't describe. It gave me the chills. Seeing everyone moving together in a common direction towards the same goal had a profound impact on me. I can't wait to see it again.
