Avaera's Post History

Well the male Castanic wear about as much clothing as the females do and they always have. So really anything on a male Castanic is going to look like that female. Here is a good gallery of armor screenshots for you: http://tera-online.cc/gallery/castanic-male/

Thanks for the response, but that's not really what I'm looking for. Back when Tera was first released (which I assume is when all of those screenshots were uploaded), the sexiest style for male characters was probably something like this:

I guess that's alright if you're a bit conservative or you're playing with kids - there's a bit of his abs and chest showing, and a little of the back. (It's fairly ugly armour, to be honest, and doesn't accentuate his attractive features at all.) That's probably about as far as we were willing to take female armour designs back when MMOs were first developed a decade or so ago, so it's good to see that male artwork is slowly on track to gender equality.

What I'm really hoping though is that there are really male equivalents to armour sets like these:

See how she is not wearing pants, has a tiny g-string, shows her thighs and most of her breasts, accentuates her hips by her stance and uses very high heels to create a more sexually attractive leg and backside shape?

I just want to be able to put that kind of armour on my male hero - as in the cartoon illustrations in the first post. Give him a bit of weight and movement in his male protuberances, just like there already is in the female protuberances. Let him wear a thong or hammock instead of pants, and give him a stance and corresponding animations that really reflects his abilities as an incubus-like demon. The starting Castanic looks are mostly like some kind of horrific blend of gothic, street-gang and drag queen styles, and they're certainly not seductive or sexually mature in the least.

I'm not female, but the latest studies are showing that female gamers are almost overtaking males in proportion terms - something like almost 47% female to 53% male according to the Entertainment Software Association - so it makes sense to start to appeal to this huge demographic that is usually dismissed. Oh, and you might also pick up a bit more of the gaymer population, like myself.

At the very least, have there been any new male armour sets released since the game launched?

Hey all,

I dabbled a little with TERA near release, but despite the wonderful gameplay and exquisite art I was really turned off by the inequity in appearance options between the two genders. A number of months ago I made a request for better male appearance options, and I'm wondering whether there have been any positive changes since then? Given it has been almost a year now, I'm curious what improvements have been made in relation to giving male characters less censored and more adult looks, at least in line with the options given to female characters.

So, would anyone kindly be able to link me a screenshot of the current sexiest male armour set and body style? Just one would be fine - I understand not everyone enjoys playing skimpily dressed Incubi. Essentially, I'm asking what the closest male equivalent to this might be:

Ideally, I would love to find something close to the following art by Silencio (a South Korean artist who does gorgeous work on his GayGeek Art blog, though a lot of his art would be NSFW). If your team is ever looking to hire additional artists, please keep him in mind - I think he might also be a TERA fan!

I'd post other examples, but I don't want to break any forum rules so will stick to the softer covered up versions to explain what I'm hoping to see.

Thanks for any help in deciding whether to come back to the game! :)

I agree, that was all I was saying. All the models represent someones unrealistic ideal.

Ah, my mistake. I thought you were disagreeing with the original suggestion.

Male characters in fantasy games are sexualized in the fact there is NOT jiggle physics. Ever seen a fanasy hero that has a body fat index greater than 1 percent?

Yes, some of the male character models are incredibly fit and strong, however pretty much all of the female character models are just as unrealistic in how fit, slim and incredibly toned they are.

I don't think this idealized figure is somehow unique to male character models and therefore balances the female skimpy armour, greatly enlarged chests, and so on.

Besides. i'm not sure I'd want to see a male character who's bulge is flailing all over the place, it'd be a...tad creepy to me.

But no more creepy than the female character animations, if you aren't so inclined. :P Besides, after a while you can train yourself to look elsewhere - there's enough gorgeous scenery and interesting other inhabitants to focus on, that's for sure.
I really like the gameplay of Tera from what I've seen so far, but I'm afraid the sexism is really over-the-top.

I don't actually mind most female characters with highly sexualised appearance - I get that it is a valid art style for an adult game. If that's what some gamers want - ie, ultra skimpy pants-free armour, chest physics, the gyrating animations of castanic/elin girls - that's fine, but why does it have to be so egregiously one-sided? Sexism, just like all other forms of stereotyped hatred and prejudice, is about unequal treatment.

Could we please look into improved physics animation for, say, Castanic male bulges, and give them at least as much impact as the Castanic female chests? Why not give them a bit of a swinging package that is at least close to as intimidating as the independently moving female tops? Of course it shouldn't be anything erect or pornographic - just as the female versions aren't - merely the same kind of soft artistic sensuality that you see in almost all the female races.

Why not allow the option (just an option) for male Castanic armour to be as revealing as female Castanic armour? Bare abs on men (heavens to murgatroyd!) isn't quite the same as thongs and chest-hugging strips of cloth on women. Why not boxer-brief type armours, skimpy tank-tops or metallic embellishments/plates for chests that have no clothing underneath?

Despite the impression you would get from most stock-standard MMO design, modern society is actually moving fairly quickly towards gender equity in a great number of areas.

Giving more options for identifying/enjoying different character models can only broaden the appeal of the game to new segments of players, and I think that's a good thing. Straight male players have already been very adeptly targetted and satisfied, but for a truly successful title it is going to have to have multiple ways of appealing to the other 55% of the population as well.
