Cinna's Post History

You are right, these melee's can destroy a sorc. Unfortunately, that does not shift the focus from using heavy-hitting long casts to using quicker casts, but rather, kiting endlessly until you hit a CC that can allow you to use stuff like fireblast.

My complaint is that because of how each skill performs and how the sorc is set up, the most viable mindset/playstyle is:

step 1: kite (dont die)
step 2: (while doing step 1) hit a cc
step 2b: if needed, hit a bigger CC off of above CC
step 3: hit your giant nuke (fireblast)
step 4: finish them

Yes, if everyone was bad, it would be:
step 1: hit a fireblast
step 2: ?
step 3: profit

Basically, its not fun endlessly trying to CC someone so you can hit a single ability to do 90% of someones health. thats not fun, imo. and it isnt much of the action rpg experience.

BTW, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BALANCE OR SKILL INVOLVED IN THE CLASS,
BUT I AM TALKING ABOUT THE FEEL!

I think the class takes a lot of skill. The combos are tricky to get off, timing and cast-times are definitely a huge point (both a pro and con) for the sorc's playstyle. A lot of thought is required in playing a sorc.

On the other hand,

it feels as though the class doesn't put some of tera's finest points to use. Movement, and aiming, aren't huge for sorc. A giant piece of what they are about (in pvp) is getting off their cc's (which are lockons and traps) and then following up with powerful, long cast time skills. Its a tricky combo to hit and is devastating, but doesn't stretch some of the big combat qualities of TERA like many of the other classes. The huge pvp skills rely on a sleep or cc because they are so impractical to hit without a cc on the target, due to how unsafe you are casting those abilities outside of a cc'd opponent. Any skilled player would punish you if they could.

I think sorc is a well designed class for mmo's generally. It has a nice skill ceiling, and is balanced, and fun, with a decent difficulty. On the other hand, how many of the exclusive elements of TERA is it really stretching? I enjoy playing a sorc, but when I see most of the other classes play, I envy how well they put the "action" part of an action RPG to use. Then I say to myself, sorc is fun, but its TERA! Why aren't I playing a different class?

Shame I am already lvl 32 with it.

Maybe someone who has played korean tera can give me some input on how it plays at 60? I've seen videos and read what skills are coming up next, and in PvP it looks really weighted on fireblasts and sleeps, basically. I want a twitchy class where I can feel proud for an arrow I hit on a fast-moving target, or feel cool after barely dodging an enemy skill - Not a class I feel like I could be playing in Aion or another traditional MMO.
necroing because all my points still apply, months later.
Can I make a character and play it in Open Beta test, and then, sometime next week (When I have the money), preorder and keep my character from previously? or do i

a) Have to preorder before ever making the character to have it be kept.

b) preorder before obt ends to keep the character.

or, yet again,

c) preorder at any later date and keep the character.
Warrior is SUPPOSED to be an evasion tank, but its not. At level 22 their only evasive skill is the level 1 dodge, and honestly its hardly evasive, and has a very long animation.

You can keep up the concept that warrior is an evasive tank and is just "difficult" based on what enmasse or the character creation has told you, but have fun doing so.

Please don't come back and tell me I was right when, at endgame, everyone is asking for a lancer as a tank, and real dps classes as dps.

Enjoy being stubborn??
Also, I now realize I should have got fraps out and made some videos showing my points here, but I already deleted my warrior so oh well :)
For starters, while these are impressions from level 22 ONLY...

I found the warriors core to be flawed. I found the concept to be flawed, and, while I didn't have all skills, at level 22 I did have a fair share, and, while there are some huge skills to be gained lategame by any class in any mmo... in almost every class in almost every mmo, the skills you get early are your core all the way through.

A lot of the skills offered are PVE based... Also, they associated the concept of dual wielding with fast, dance-like sweeps of attacks. The problem with this, is that, one of my basic damagers, is now like a 5 attack animated swipe, in which you can't change the direction. I am suppose to be an evasive tank, yet all my attacks are long-animated, locked in abilities, and honestly are less evasive than any other class.

I guess it would be easier for me to review the skills here:

lvl1 - Combo Attack: Nice auto attack. Nice damage, nice animations, good mana building. not complaining here.

lvl1 - Evasive Roll: Woo, the bread and butter EVASIVE MOVE on a tank! This thing is on a nice 5 second cooldown, which is beautiful, and short compared to any other class as far as I know. On the other hand, it has a dreadfully slow start animation before the leap, actually travels slowly, and you are locked into place when landing for about half a second. You might say, "this thing is awesome, why are you complaining about it?" ... Go use the archers evasive move. It is extremely fluid with no animation pause before or after the leap. Warriors evasive skill isn't awful, but as an evasive tank, I think it should be a little more... evasive?

lvl2 - Rain of Blows: This thing does decent damage, but like I said... it does a LOT of hits to add up to a nice number, over a VERY long animation, and you cannot change directions while in the midst of it. I promise you will never get all of its hits off in PvP. Since it gets stronger per hit, you will hit the weaker few attacks, and then they will move out of the way, and absolutely PUNISH you while you are still stuck in animation for like 3 more hits. Seriously, I am suppose to be an evasive tank... but I can't even change directions while using this skill? Good god, this thing is awful for boss fights, and, particularly for pvp, its a DEATH TRAP.

lvl 4 -Vortex Slash: Nice damage, good aoe. Long animation to spin... but its not really a big deal. For single target boss fight stuff, you won't need it so who cares if the animation is long. For pvp, you won't need it, so who cares if the animations are long.
oh wait... so its not really useful at all in pvp? Another wasted skill. Moving on.

lvl 6 - Combative strike: sexy animation, cool concept. This thing really costs on the health... its damage is good, and its debuff is nice. I'd use it in an instance any day, its great...
For pvp? No way. It, again, charges an animation slowly, and locks you in after finishing it. It also barely travels any distance. It also doesn't stun or anything... So if you charge a enemy with it, you are animation-locked once landing on them... free hit for them? This thing is garbage for pvp, even more so when you consider the health you pay for it.

lvl 8 - Rising Fury: I really like this skill. Its fun, since it does more dmg the less health you have. It has a nice low cooldown. You take less damage while performing it, so it can be really clutch in tanking a boss' hit or an enemy player's attack. The animation is nice and short/quick, and you can change direction on the final blow, or just not use the final blow at all. This skill is really well designed, and definitely one of my fav. warr skills.

lvl 10 - Assault stance & Defensive stance: these are fine, nicely designed. Not complaining here.

lvl 12 - Retaliate: Most classes have this. It's good, fine, w/e. Not complaining here.

lvl 14 - Battle Cry: This thing is good for pve. Its a nice panic button for instances when you drop aggro, and its not a decent cooldown. The stun is also good. The range on this AoE is big, too. For PvP, it isn't worthless but isn't that great. Its quite the long animation to shout - you will get hit by something if the enemy is good. The stun is pretty short... Using it as an interrupt is viable I guess, but to get something out of the stun you'd have to use it pretty close to them. If you use it at max range, by the time you get up to them, they are unstunned. In pvp, this thing isn't good almost at all, but it isn't absolute garbage.

lvl 18 - Torrent of Blows: bread n' butter for PvE - It builds threat. You take WAY less damage while in the animation, so I like this skill for that. It has a skill ceiling and is really clutch, and it applys to PvP too. On the other hand, the damage is awful... So for PvP this isn't really very applicable. I suppose you could use it to tank an inevitable hit and use the reduced damage while in animation, which is neat. But wait... I'm an evasive tank. I'm pretty sure I don't want to tank any hit, right? Yeah...

lvl 18 - Smoke Aggressor: This thing is awesome for PvE. It looks cool, its a neat idea, and it seriously DOES its job. On a nice cooldown too. I love this skill. On the other hand, its absolutely WORTHLESSSSS for PvP! It hits NO damage. No, literally. It hits 2's and 3's. It's used for tanking, so it seriously does nothing for PvP. You could argue it serves as a meatshield if used correctly, but come on guys. This thing shouldn't even be on your bar for PvP.

lvl 22 - Poison Blade: I like it. It does good damage, and the animation is a decently quick divey thing. Good skill!

Lvl 22 - Pounce: HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. I was in skype with a priest and slayer friend (who already had a VERY LOW CD, VERY FAST, very long distance charge) when I said, "GUYS, I FINALLY GOT A NEAT EVASIVE SKILL / GAP CLOSER!!!!" We went out to level and I used it.They burst out laughing as I raged hard. This thing is the worst skill in all of Tera. Literally, this is the slowest animation I have ever seen. It is so bad. It has such a short range. And for all of that, when it finally hits, decent damage and a decent slow? Seriously... This was the final blow that made me reroll. While I don't see much defense in any of my arguements here, regarding PvP, there are absolutely none for this skill. Pounce is humiliatingly bad, laughably horrible, and its outright puzzling how a skill could just be so bad at its core.

All in all, I loved the concept of warrior. a Risky, but skill-based evasive tank, who is actually squishy but is the most mobile of all classes.

Unfortunately, it got killed by a few points, to summarize:

1 - Because they are a dual-wielder, their attacks are, singularly very low, but add up to decent damage from many swipes. The downfall of this is very long animations and locking into place for multiple attacks. Honestly the least evasive offensive skills in the game.

2 - For some bewildering reason, TERA consistently throws a warrior player skills that are bluntly designed as PvE skills and do nothing for PvP.

3 - ... They have no evasive skills. I may have only been 22, but ive talked to kTERA players, watched videos, and read up. Seriously. They hardly have any more dodges and mobile skills, at all.

All of this was written based off viability in a) PvE in instances / raids and MOSTLY b) in PvP. I may have been level 22.. I have integrity and usually bear through nerfed classes if I enjoy them and feel they have hope. On the other hand, I was just not enjoying warrior. It was poorly designed at the core, and wasn't what it was hyped to be. I will place my bets that, on this current patch, they will be as awful @ endgame as I have made them sound at level 22. On the other hand, if they are really so good and come into their own lategame, thats a design flaw in itself that should be fixed.
