The big deal with warriors is that they have a pretty high skill ceiling with just about anything they do. They're more heavily based on individual player skill than just about any other class. Naturally, this causes the class to get a bad rep when unskilled players try to play them which ends with -everyone- thinking they're awful.
Warriors are more or less what they seem like on the outside: a really fast paced, action-oriented class. They get into a fight and bounce around all over the place dealing damage fast and mitigating damage by simply avoiding it.
By far the largest issue I've run into playing warrior as a tank is other members of the group immediately becoming terrified when I tell them I'm tanking. So far, I've received nothing but praise from actually tanking and I've tanked everything through CR without an issue. It's all about being aware.
DPS as a warrior is more or less the same thing. You can put out some really great damage while also avoiding a ton of incidental damage from bosses/BAMs, like AoEs and sweeps, altogether. We just start off a little slow in terms of tools for both tanking and dealing damage, but all of that rapidly improves. Warrior gets really awesome in the later levels.
So are they bad? Not in the slightest. They are very, very skill based though.
Are they a crazy hack and slash class? Without a doubt they are the caziest, hackiest, and slashiest, but you're also going to be dancing around everywhere avoiding hits and dealing quick damage sort of like a rogue. It's worth a try at least.
