I solo BAMS in defensive stance because its much more reliable to block than to dodge, imho. Blocking doesn't give you a cooddown, while your roll does. Also, being able to stand in one spot gives you extra time to weave in dps skills, like rain of blows (which will heal you if glyphed correctly).
It may "appear" to take less time, but if you wipe on a BAM you have to start all over. So, I like to go slow and steady instead of risk it.
To answer your question fully, I would suggest only using your block. Make sure you don't hold it down as your resolve will deteriorate very quickly. If you find yourself low on resolve, use your smoke warrior to take the pressure off you and build resolve back up. If that skill is on cd, simply kite the bam for resolve. Easy peasy.
