And there would be naming issues. Going to a server where someone already had your name. Or exploiting it to change your name that you didn't like.
They way things are going I doubt you will have much trouble being on a pvp server. Also pvp servers aren't necessarily low population. There will always be several pvp servers with high population.
You said you don't mind being ganked and you want some pvp so that seems clear to me that you belong on a PvP server.
I would say there is likely going to be MORE pve servers but that doesn't mean that the pvp ones will be almost empty. I have used pvp servers my entire MMO life and I always seem to have tons of people on my servers.
Whether is it pvp or pve if there are enough low population servers they will end up being merged to increase population so if you end up on a low population server it is likely that you will be merged in with another server.
Don't play on a pve server because you fear a low population. There are plenty of us PVP people to fill good quality pvp servers. There ends up being many PvE server mergers too so play on the type of sever that suites you.
As I said there will be plenty of high quality, high population pve and pvp servers so just chose the one that is best for you. And that sounds like a pvp server.
For your questions now.
I will be joining a pvp server if I chose to play. (undecided because of a few issues, but it WILL be pvp if I do play)
PVE servers WILL be more popular... But there will be more of them. Even if it's 5 Pve servers to one PvP server it doesn't mean the pvp servers will be empty. If it's 5 pvp servers and 10 pve servers there will always be a few dominant servers. Even if it's 4 of the pve and only 2 of the PvP.
Pick what you want to play on, there will be enough people to be on those servers.
I noticed one of the best things you can do for yourself is switch to the combat log or party channel. Poof! Everyone but your buddies is gone.

*snip*--- area chat is full of flaming, trolling, and whining. It's a glorious smattering of anger, revenge, betrayal, and hatred. Don't like it? Turn off area chat or go to a PvE server.
I always do what was said here, I typically create a new chat channel and only allow "party/guild/whispers" This is typically the answer to get rid of a lot of trolling. Unless I need to form up a group or am willing to join a group I will use my special chat tab so I only see what I want.
Azalion and McOwn seem to know exactly that and probably avoid a lot of trolling by doing the same thing as I do. It's great to avoid trolls.
Consider this also. The amount of "trolls/jerks" out there is minimal to the amount of quality/nice people out there. for every one troll there are 400 decent people out there. If you don't like altering chat tabs or are not comfortable with it, there is always an ignore feature. If it's just one or two people constantly being fools just put them on the ignore list.
But don't let a few bad people ruin your game experience, there are always going to be ways around having to deal with their negativity.
Game on.
TLDR: At bottom.
Everyone needs to consider some of the things that everyone has said.
Like it being the internet. I cay say and practically do whatever I want and none of you can really alter my behavior. That's mainly the reason why people say so many rude and hurtful things online.
I like to think of myself as someone who is fair and generally a nice person. I am proud to be who I am and I really do think I am a kind hearted person. One of my friends did point out to me though that online in game I am kind of a jerk to people who I don't know. After thinking about it over and over I realized that I am not always the nicest person when it comes to online games. After you hear a question a good ten times an hour sometimes you might have some rude remark to the question.
I am nice to everyone that I meet in real life but maybe I am not so nice to people in games. Maybe I try to be nice as long as possible but people wear on me and turn me a bit bitter after awhile. This may be the case of the people with the classic and new(ish) "you mad bro" type of responses.
I wouldn't say that those people are exactly bad, but maybe were logged on for too long experiencing the same thing over and over and just sort of exploded like I admit that I do. I am happy to answer the same question asked over and over but eventually I come to a limit and just say something rude or silly as well. It's something I need to work on as a person but it really is the internet that gives me the freedom.
There are definitely rude/immature people out there that will get their fun by making you miserable. It can be by ganking lowbies, trolling chat to cause a problem or anything else that they know can make a person get mad.
The best thing to do is just ignore the hate and realize when someone types "umadbro" that they are really just trying to get a response out of you. As long as you don't continue to give the aggressor fuel they will give up on trying to make you angry. As soon as you give in and give them something else to respond to you have lost the battle. Look at it that way. You win by ignoring their comments and you lose if you give them the satisfaction of responding.
Also, don't respond to someone being hateful in a general chat. All it does it fuel that particular person to keep harassing you and encouraging others to join in. Just ignore it like it were a 4 year old talking to you. People have almost no consequences online and will take advantage of it.
TLDR: Just ignore people to attempt to tick you off, they will go away.
When life gives you Potatoes, you make chicken lemon rice soup.
Nothing screams carebear like picking fights with people who have no hope of winning indeed. It's hilarious how cheezy, wimpy gankers who only pick on those they can one-shot or two-shot are the first to label themselves PvPers. Real PvP occurs when both sides can enter the fight, not only one side who is too lame to actually face a legitimate opponent.
So the OP and the other pathetic gankers in this thread actually want lowbies not only to be able to be one-shotted or two-shotted, but they also need them to be hog-tied and straight-jacketed for them first too?
LOL.
Do you realize what a pathetic bunch you all really are? ;)
You and many others are missing the point. It's not about smacking down players that are 10 levels lower than you, it's about getting out of pvp so easily.
Lets say we're both the same level, lets say I have the name of your X-boyfriend so you want to kill me. You attack me and I think "Oh I'm going to wreck this chump". So we battle for awhile and then I realize that I am not going to win this battle. So I teleport/jump away, run for 3 seconds, instantly mount up and run away tying "lawl-lawl-lawl-lawl" The point is that you shouldn't be able to get away so easily if things aren't going so well for you.

Even if there are a few more CC's at later levels that doesn't address the entire game up to that point. People should stay in combat longer, even if it's by proximity to the person you were in combat with.
I remember watching a video of a guy trying to kill someone (equal level). Then another jumped in to attack the outlaw. It was then 2 on 1 which he kited around by teleporting and mounting up and running. Then he would drop off mount, throw up a HOT, mount back up and keep running until he was full again. Then he would stop and start fighting again. Whenever he risked death, he would teleport away, run, mount and keep running, dropping mount to heal and mounting back up, this went on for quite some time until it was 5 people trying to kill him and still.......he was easily able to escape.
It seems there is no reason to be killed when you can escape so easily. There needs to be either a mounting cast time or staying in combat longer.
PvP servers aren't for everyone, so don't play on one if you can't handle someone splitting your digital skull open sometimes.
I laugh at the people who love never having to pvp ever... calling the people who do actually want to pvp the carebears. I want safe zones, I want a million escapes, I want harsh penalties for outlaws....I want to never die... and oh by the way, the rest of you are the real carebears.
*angry face* RAWR!!!!!!!
What is this the new rick roll?
I don't like the idea of many safe zones but they do need to exist at least in large cities. Everyone needs some sort of safe haven but having safe zones at every quest hub does seem a bit much.
