GregoryChaucer's Post History

elin swim quite fast and gather plants quite quickly, i love this!
Hi i'm Appa, I roll an Elin Berserker named Anja because tiny people with big axes are super amusing.

Im a crafter, hit me up if you need anything but alchemy!
Not gonna delete my berserker. (too much money spent on leveling crafting and such) however I am planning on alting as a lancer, beceause while i tank better as a berserker than most warriors and lancers ive partied with, its generally frowned upon and there is a drastic shortage of tanks out there.
I'm a berserker, and if my party cant find a tank, or our warrior refuses to tank, i do it. let warriors dps if they want, I have the competence in trading blows and blocking to tank for them. not to mention i have a nasty habit of taking aggro as it is.

That's a spear, not a lance. And there is no problem with Zerkers. Why would you want another class just like the slayer, just using an axe instead of a sword. If you want mobility and lighter armor .. go play warrior or slayer. It's just that simple.

so we should call it spearman? because a lancer as seen as a knight is an aggressor, not a defender. i like lancer, i like the way it looks, but its role is that of a hoplite not a knight.

as for berserkers, i actually dont want another class like slayer, i like berserker, my comment actually points more towards an off tank role.

theres your lancer.
I think it might have something to do with one of the mystic thralls or something, once again, i havent played mystic and i havent seen someone try to tank with one.

But yeah, i do see bad lancers, and i step up and tank when they die. i notice that about the second death, the priest quits ressurecting the tank until after the battle and just lets me do my thing.

I dont see this happening, but i'd like to see berserker become an acceptable tank. It is surprisingly viable, but its not considered acceptable.
So i'm sure everyone who has spent any time anywhere with area chat enabled has noticed this trend. 3/4 of the shouts are someone doing some group quest or instance, that needs a tank.

Lancers are fantastic tanks. the problem is that there just never seem to be enough lancers to fit the demand.

Warriors can be quite good tanks too if they know how to do it. The problem here is that you run into way too few people willing to tank on warrior, and of that minority, you run into a large percentage of those that, honestly, cant tank for anything.

I've heard of mystics tanking, but ive never seen it so i cant reaally tell you if that works.

And finally Berserkers. I play berserker, i know that they arent made to tank. way too often however, i find myself tanking when our warrior died because he lacks the skill or common sense to dodge attacks. luckily, berserker block is exceedingly effective and if you glyph it is exceedingly cost effective. I'm not saying berserkers should tank, but i they definately can if they have a decent healer, and are willing to try. The problem here is that berserkers pretty much need full aggression crystals, as well as mana generation glyphs.

these are just my observations on Jagged coast server during the open beta.
I agree that it doesn't really seem to fit too much with the idea of a berserker, but at the same time, you can equate their need to strike in order to gain mana with your description of a "rage" mechanic, albeit without the stat buffs added in.

my problem with berserker right now is that it is exceedingly heavily armored, that, added to the way too effective axe block, makes berserkers decidedly more tanky than you would expect. i feel like for it to really be a berserker, it should be much more lightly armored, like the slayer.

also if you wanted to go with a realistic rage mechanic, you could have a skill that, when activated, reduces the amount of damage you take for a certain amount of time as well as reducing the chance to be knocked down and increasing damage. the caveat to this would be that once you havent struck an enemy for a certain amount of time, you lose a significant chunk of hp based on how much damage you have taken. this would simulate your return from the rage, and the effect of all the wounds you have taken.
