I'd say think of the lance more like a spear.

but if it was a spear i wouldn't mind :( spears are awesome. i could be a little hoplite.

On to the actual subject, If you're as good as you say, I'd go warrior. Evasion tanks have always been my favorite kind, but it's aggravating that most MMO's don't actually make you evade. This one does.

As someone else mentioned, it takes work, but you can tank the boss in small, tight turns, thus keeping it "mostly" in place, or use one of your damage reduction moves (DFA) to negate bigger attacks. Timing is everything my friend.

yeah, i usually use voice chat when playing with my friends and im expecting a few to come play with me. i can easily call out 'rotating right' or whatever.

In this case, it is not exaggerated at all. There is a reason why the Warrior is the only 5-star difficulty rated class. Playing a Warrior involves the proper timing of when to use your dodge vs. moving out of the way, and managing abilities that consume your health, and taunting to tank well.

that doesn't rly sound very hard

step 1: find out the behavior of the mob
step 2: make a plan based on said behavior
step 3: win

And yes, the Lance concept is a bit weird. I think they were just trying to do something "different" with the basic tank to set them apart from the normal sword+shield combo. I think it looks cool anyways, personally.

BUT YOU DONT SWING LANCES OR STAB WITH THEM. Here is how you use a lance in combat:

step 1: hold it steady
step 2: let your horse do all the work

this would be like

like

like going to a mmo based in modern times and finding out that the main tank class is called a 'sniper' because he uses a sniper.

in melee range.

by hitting you with the butt of the gun.

You don't swing lances around. They don't work that way. They're not built for movement. You can't thrust a lance.

that's retarded.

w/e.

Warriors wear leather, dual wield, have no block mechanic, and their dodge is on a short 5sec-ish CD. The only warriors I have ever seen tanking only did so by spinning the boss, and they could not tank trash without taking tons of damage. In short I would not roll a warrior and expect a main tank spot.

actually

the main tank tanks the boss, not the trash

that's the offtank's job.

Just in case your reference to mounted combat wasn't a joke - there is no mounted combat. Lancer is a basic sword n board tank, who just wields a lance in one hand rather than a sword.

on a serious note

what

i can't be the only one here who sees a problem with swinging a lance around

what.

w/e, if i end up going with a lancer, i'll probably pick the prepubescent girl race or the small furry animal race so i can look silly while looking silly.

Warriors CAN tank, very well even. However most people simply do not have the skill to play them well. They are straight-up evasion tanks, and they take loads of practice to master.

so do you mean like they tank the same way from link from legend of zelda tanks

i could probably do that

99% of the time, video game difficulty is vastly overexaggerated and the 1% of the time it isn't, you're dealing with a gear grind.

But I see that the primary tanking class in this game uses a lance. I'm not particularly interested in being mounted during combat so I'm not sure how that will work out.

Are warriors any good? The wording is a bit awkward on the class guide because it says it is "possible but difficult". Does that mean what it says literally or does it mean that they are pretty gimp and you'll only use a warrior tank for easy content?
