Koldhara's Post History

i could write some anecdotes about why your concerns are a old beaten horse but ill do you one better. i get ya, but this is just how games made by predominately male developers for male players do things. among other things.

i refer to you, a comic strip called, why girls don't play world of Warcraft:
http://www.elfwood.com/~portenga2/Why-Girls-Dont-Play-World-of-Warcraft-Comic.3490181.html

and finally: http://us.media.blizzard.com/wow/media/comics/comic-2007-07-mleiv-full.jpg

that is what you have to deal with. you can always roll a male but for the most part, its really not a big deal to me when you consider where the game is made and how games are made in general.

and yes, both are wow based but that game has always and still is king.
what exactly do you people mean when you say leveling is "easy" anyways? there is really two kinds of leveling. the kind where you gain levels quicker or the kind where it takes you hours to get one level. that's not a difference in difficulty but a difference in time.

if your concern is that monsters are too easy to kill, that is not a question of leveling difficult (or lack of it) but combat difficulty.

if your concern is that you level too fast, that just means XP acquisition to next level XP ratio is too small. that just means you need a bigger xp wall.

i will tell you now, i don't want to have to spend a month just to get half the level cap. i was actually pretty sure that beta has an increased xp rate. if its not, it could be tweaked a little bit but not by much. large exp requirements are annoying and boring because it means that later in the end you will spend nothing but time killing the same monster over and over. and we all know whose games and what kind of games that follow that model.
sadly it failed to keep me interested. even AION kept me interested for a while. in any case, i think this game has a lot of potential though but only time will tell if it does well here in the west.

Cheap marketing.

This.

Rift did an amazing job going from unknown to a game most MMO gamers knew solely through betas and growing from there.

and now its free to play.....either way, having a polished game is good, but you gotta keep the momentum. and NA players will drop a game quickly if its not engaging enough to keep them playing..... i myself quit RIFT after a month....
finally i can download the client. i just now got an SSD so i am ready to stress this baby out.
when you delete a quest or complete it, the mobs you track should clear on the mini map or HUD map. currently they do not clear when you finish quest or delete it. it would even better if you could dynamically track them.

escort NPC should have a tag noting to whom they belong to. when you have multiple people all vying for the same escort quest (especially one where you have to partially damage one) they have no tag so you don't know if they are yours or someone else's. a tag like [name]'s guardian or companion etc...would make it easier to identify them.

escort npcs need to walk faster or run. no need to waste 10 minutes walking to your destination. especially when by context they are in a "hurry".
it probably is a different of culture and region, but in the end, if you gonna localize something, you gotta go a step further. honestly i have no idea who the catanics are or their back ground. i could bother to read the lore on the forums but that is external information. based on what i played i only know that there is some big enemy terrorizing the citizenry but that is pretty much it. it is also the most basic you can get to any story line.
its like i was saying back there. if you are in a melee heavy group, it is likely one of them will die. the problem is that Bosses are so large that you cant really see all of the members so you have to circle the boss continuously.

i guess this brings the need to tell the party to make sure they stay close together as much as they can so that they can get healed when they need to. but that brings in problems since if the boss critically hits one, he will probably get them all.....

i like how this concept makes for a more dynamic play. even if you're fighting the same boss, it wont really be the same for anyone.
its funny you should say that... it seems people are most concerned with picking up orbs in a dungeon, probably by then they realized that if they don't they might not survive. the group i was with for the most part they did pickup orbs, but i would some times see four or five on the ground, but i never felt i needed to tell them to pick them up.

when we were doing basilisks outside, maybe one or two would pick up all t he orbs i threw down, and usually after their health fell past a certain point.

reminds me of WoW, and how people rarely ever use the healing well (maybe the tank). they even have an addon that tells you who used it and whether or not they fully expended all of its charges.

i should also emphasize that there is a big difference between having 1:4 healer melee than 1:1:3 healer ranged melee setup. i was in a 1:4 healer melee setup and having to watch four people in a boss fight is quite challenging since you cant see through the mob, you gotta run around so you have all of them on the screen. it adds for some rather interesting maneuvering.
ok, i am not sure if this has been brought up, but can we have an option to filter or enable it? i am pretty sure this is a rated M game, and most of us are adult enough to know when its ok to curse, and those who do not, there are already rules to manage that.

and if parents are letting kids play this game, one would have to say they assume all responsibility of letting them play a game not intended for them?

i certainly appreciate the fact that there are other bigger fish to fry, but it irks me when i see those #### and the message that goes with them. incidentally i only have seen it once...
