Pinupgirl's Post History

Title.

When I first played Tera I was captivated to an extraordinary degree by the idea of "skill" based combat... Particularly BAMs, where a powerful monster could be whittled down by a skilled player.

But as I leveled it became more and more insane to attempt to solo high level BAMs, and the amount of content seemed really ... threadbare.

Just wondering if since I stopped playing seriously like 6 months ago, anything has changed?

I really wanna log on and find something magical going on and be swept away and enthusiastic about playing again, what will I find?

I really don't see any reason to close or lock this thread yet. As long as conversation stays constructive - there's no reason to lock it down. :)

Any chance that you or someone else can make an official statement regarding current intent or future intent to get more hands-on with actual discussions?

Because I'd really love to see you guys get involved in the actual discussions instead of just referee but if that's not in the cards I'd also prefer to just hear that up front rather than avoiding the elephant in the room and always wondering.

You're right. I've just seen mods close threads and ban people without even saying a single word - talk about being sneaky and slimey...

Well, hopefully since people have kept this relatively on-topic (since the topic was pretty wide to begin with) and somewhat constructive, maybe they'll comment to address the concerns expressed here and not just lock it for something silly like "callouts" or "discussing moderation". I support the ability to shut down threads that are blatant attacks or "zomg y u ban me/delete my thread/mod my post", but discussions like this are beneficial to them and should be embraced/encouraged.

I'd say one of the most depressing things I consistently see on the forums is that moderation spends more time doing what I'd refer to as "Babysitting" and a microfraction of their time providing any insight, feedback, or participating meaningfully in any discussions.

Which is really disheartening.

I could care less if they lock necrobumps or duplicate threads or if they edited someone's profanity-laden rant, or locked another DPS meters thread that got derailed.

What I really want them to be doing is operating as a liaison between the people making the changes or deciding the game's direction, and us. And not just on an occasional super-formal basis, on a frequent basis, being a part of discussions, having opinions and thoughts of their own, and assisting the community in fleshing out ideas and adding value to discussion.

I don't think they get paid to think or do anything creative... At least that's my experience from watching them constantly close threads that don't suit their "ideal forum." We must not speak badly or criticize the company - they can do no wrong... Well, let's not forget that after some of us bought weapon skins, they decided to change them - but it IS in the TOS so technically they did no wrong... We're in NA, they really don't care about us here as evidensed by everything that has occurred. Oh and I do play Asian games: Jade Dynasty, Forsaken World and have found the GM's and Mods there to be really great. But oh well, can't have that everywhere I suppose...

I really hate mentioning other games when talking about Tera.

For two reasons: 1) It's unfair to compare Tera to huge companies with a lot of money and a lot more freedom who've had a lot more time to refine and perfect their process and 2) because of the ignorant backlash from certain people on these forums when you mention pretty much any other MMO.

But with that said, I have to cite the comparatively superior communication from the forum moderators on the Blizzard forums. They do a much better job of actually engaging the community with real meaningful quality posts, not that I always agree with them, sometimes they're a little corporate-double-talk-y, but overall the quality is really there, and they do so much more than just locking threads and regurgitating forum guidelines.

I totally understand where the OP is coming from.

3 months into TERA and I'm only at lvl 58. With TERA being my first MMO, I'm taking the time, reading the lore and experiencing the gameplay. I was never in any rush to reach endgame.

At the same time, around lvl 40, I too began loosing motivation to play. Quests, monsters, and game dynamic are the same. Repetitive. In any case, I continued along taking breaks from the Story quest and roaming various continents and areas of the game. Took up crafting and quickly realizing I did not like it. (which is humorous, as crafting gear and weapons is what made me sign up for TERA.)

When I reached lvl 50, things really go bad. Bored out of my mind.

It's a Korean Grind - nuff said...

Yea, but, I don't want it to be nuff said. I'd much rather see the NA branch just go off in a completely different direction and come back to Tera and enjoy it again.

I'd give anything to recreate that initial feeling I had when I first started playing. I've never enjoyed starter areas in an MMO, I've always been endgame oriented, and hated leveling/middle-game -- I really wish Tera had what other MMOs have endgame, with the current enjoyable mid-game.

I'm still rooting for this game, I've gotten a handful of people to buy/try it but no one has stuck with it, I don't want it to die or go F2P that's why I locked into a 6 month sub, but even though I'm subbed and already paid the money, I just don't have any interest atm in playing, which is really disappointing.

It looks as if you feel guilty you dedicated too much time to Tera and now there are other things you want to or should be doing outside of gaming. That a whole different issue.
Focus on that, set your priorities straight. No MMO is enjoyable if you play it feeling guilty over the time you spend on it. A break is probably in order.

Da fuq is this coming from?

I'd be fine living and breathing Tera with no regrets if it provided the same replay value as other games I've played. I have no "other things I want or should be doing outside of gaming". Reading way too much into whatever you read that gave you this impression.

I really wanna be excited about the swimsuits but there's just nothing interesting actually in the game itself for me to want to do more than log on and take a 15 minute poke at it. =|

So you didn't read the lore of the game while going through it? I played this game because the lore interested me.

I did. Just not all of it all the time if it didn't interest me.

Some did. Some didn't.

As for your personal enjoyment of the lore, well, that's good for you I guess that a cumulative hour of reading is enough to justify continued gameplay, but, even if I read every quest and watched every CS I seriously doubt the few additional hours of gameplay would have had me wanting to log on.

I really wish I could recreate the magic of the first 40 or so levels of my gameplay experience, but I just can't bring myself to log on lately ...

Wondering if anyone else is feeling the same?

Because people go through the content like water then complain after, some don't even read the quest. The lore for this game is actually nice and even with a few changed plots *cough* poporia storyline*cough* they shouldn't be just clicking next all the time.

There's dozens of absolutely amazing books that I'd love to read, TV shows and movies I've been meaning to watch, and games that are explicitly RPGs for the sake of being RPGs not MMORPGs that have to strike a magic balance between too much and too little text/story, that I would rather be reading/watching/playing if I was concerned about story and lore.

I was not a day/week/month1 to level cap player, and I didn't farm hardmodes endlessly for full masterwork +12s, I just feel like the game is lacking a certain something that makes me actually want to log on and play.

Also when I referenced level 40, I meant the first 40 levels were really fun, and it kinda tapered off after that. I've alreay hit level cap, and then got bored.
