Why would you want to try to stop gold farming. This game is based around having a lot of gold, thus gold farming is necissary.
Well lets list all the 'This isn't going to happens' that really did happen:
EME's "We have no plans to merge the servers" makes some players (mostly fanbois) state that "Tera is doing way too great, they will 'never merge the servers', Mainly because they were all fooled by the server status screen that EmE had goin on and actually thought the servers were full with people logged on when it simply only meant that there were a lot of characters created on the server. Low and behold there are only 3 servers now.
Months and months ago before the server merger, some players who knew better started to talk about making tera F2P. EME states "We have though about it, but have no plans to make tera F2P at this time" While some players (mostly fanbois) say 'TERA will 'never go F2P' because it is just doing too great'. Low and behold, TERA finally goes F2P in less than a year from US launch.
Now the same situation is present with the thought of P2W. There are certain items that Ktera took off of normal venders: master alkahest, common inig scroll, etc that will now be in their cash shop. One can assume that having to dish out RL money to get your equipment up to +12 would esentually make that P2W, and I think it is too. But EmE has stated "We have no plans to follow the same route". Meanwhile players take that (AGAIN) and say 'Tera will never have a P2W style cash shop'. Take a lesson from the history of this game and dont set yourself up for dissapointment by continuing to beilieve it will 'never happen'.
Feel free to dig up some other 'this aint never gonna happens' that did happen. It might be a fun game.

Awesome...... I am a (un)proud owner of a $90 Compass now.
Or maybe a 50c piece of paper, and $89.50 compass
or maybe a set of discs totalling about 4 dollars, 50c piece of paper, and $85.50 compass.....

There will inevitablly be some type of consumables on the shop. Maybe just random boxes that you MIGHT get alkahests and enig scrolls out of, and exp boosts of the sorts. Maybe just EXP boosts, Gold Drop Boosts, Rare Drop boosts, etc.
Senji on 01/10/2013, 02:39 PMAveris on 01/10/2013, 02:26 PMI really don't see how a F2P model as open and giving as this can really survive on vanity items alone. It just won't work. I'm pretty sure we will see similar items to KTera here. Either through chance bags or straight up P2W items. It has to happen that way for them to survive.
LOTS of people buy gold in mmos. 1 person will supply MANY with cash shop items in exchange for their gold, just like with chronoscrolls. People will snap up costumes/mounts/dyes/vouchers/boosts in droves. Chance bags and dusts wont be required for them to make money off the cash shop at all, but we will see how they listen to the playerbase.
This game will actually be F2P, other "F2P-former-P2P" games like recently SWTOR and Aion are really just demos. You cant utilize the entire game unless you pay.
Hey, I hope you're right, but from my POV, eventually the vanity item market will dry up until a new one is released, which requires development time. However, they can put up enchant items that require no dev time other than adding it to the shop and make money all the time because that stuff will always be needed based on how the game is made. It's really a no brainier for the company.
I'm against it, I'm against F2P in general, I think it's ruining the MMO industry. I think it will just take a couple years for others to realize it once the dust settles. That or everyone will just have to change their perception of what the new MMO is.
I certainly hope Tera doesn't go this route, but I can't see how they can't.

Which will probably be Master Alkahest and Master Inigmatic scrolls...
Common Inig scroll is going too far, dunno what they are thinking with that one. But then again.... gonna make them pay to get different stats on their stuff.

Thats because RIFT isnt a KMMO. I made the call about TERA because of its origion, not because of it being a new MMO and not WoW. Happens to all of them....
Wonder whats gonna become of Blade & Soul :o

Not at all surprised. They freely admitted they wanted it to be F2P when they started in 2007, but the P2P model was still too strong and people wouldn't be as receptive [because of WoW].
I'm not suprised either. I verbally gave this game less than a year in the US before it turned F2P
Boy was I right....
Not like it takes any kind of psychic abilities to make that call, there's only one MMO released in the last few years that wasn't F2P/B2P within a year and that was Rift.
