1. Champions, terrible word of mouth caused low pop servers for three years, until went free to play.
2. Star Trek Online Released 2010, within months had "come back to us" promotions and went free to play a year and half later.
3. Age of Conan. Released 2008, struggled with terrible word of mouth until it too went free to play .

There is no proof that NA 'vanity only' cash shops have failed, because the only one to do so, can succeed while taking a dump in its players' mouths at this point.
Arguably, nothing sold in any of those cash shops mentioned was required to enjoy the game. Hell people said the same thing about them that you are, about this game's shop. OPTIONAL. Vanity or not.

Cash shops don't belong in subscription based games. They were created for free to play, and only the most greedy publishers include them on top of subs, people like Bobby Kotick who said " want to take the joy out of game development", and wishes games were even more expensive. (actual statements of his)

Those are the kind of people who promote these shops, and what they think of you as a customer.

Vanity or not, cash shops in American games don't do well. People think because WoW did they have the same kind of unique clout.

I wasn't aware that any of those 3 had vanity shops? Also, I don't consider a game as "failing" just because it didn't end of being as popular as WoW, or even if it goes F2P. IMO, a game hasn't "failed" until they can no longer turn enough profit to keep their servers open at all.
EQ2 has had a rather large cash shop for many years. They only recently went to a semi-F2P model (sub optional, limited F2P mode). Seemed to work out fine for them.

Sorry, I just disagree with the whole "Cash shops belong only in F2P games" train of thought. I believe that line of thinking is just the way of the past. Things evolve. I'm fine with that. Frankly, as I've mentioned in many posts, I don't view it any differently than paid expansions. That's content they make, that is withheld from anyone who doesn't pay RL money for it. People have been accepting of that for years and years. But somehow offering fluff "content" for RL money is a sign of the Apocalypse. I don't get it, but I also understand that not everyone thinks the same.

I agree with this. The game isn't dying just because a few people don't like the cash shop.
10$ says this thread dies before the game does.
People complaining over vanity items that they'll never equip and some other player will, is quite possibly the dumbest complaint I've ever heard of for a video game.

Seriously, if someone else has a giant lollipop that should in no way effect your ability to play this game.

I really hope you guys are joking, trolling or drunk, it's the only way that this complaint can be viable.

(Area chat) Rufusdq82d: So why are you leaving Tera?
(Area chat) Dumbonugget: What? You didn't see the Elin with the giant Lollipop? Screw this game I'm out.

lol
I've played a lot of F2P games, I played Star Trek Online when it was free to play and loved it. I don't care if this game goes F2P, I'll still pay a sub to it if it's an option purely out of support for the game if I like it.

But I want to know that even if the game does start to die off (which isn't always a bad thing when considering the fail in many mmo communities) I want to know that F2P will still be an option and they won't just do away with it altogether.

I don't want to buy the game and then a month or 6 months or a year later have to year that they're shutting down the servers. In my experience many F2P games have much better communities that the P2P ones.

Could this game survive on a F2P model, if it came to that?

Now, however, it seems as though not a single person playing has anything good to say about it. It's as if since it's release the game has gone straight down the toilet.

Cool post dude!

Unfortunately, the forum population is not representative of the actual playerbase. The general populace on my server enjoy it immensely, and continue to level, work together, and grow as a community.

If you are bothered by vanity shops, have a lack of patience or desire for immediate gratification from a new game, you will not like this game.

If you want to try something new, have combat based on player skill instead of pre-determined stats, and have the little things that make a game surprising and unique, you will like this game! Growing lore, lots to explore, much to murder, and a standard MMO community await you!

I personally support this game. I love it, and enjoy it. I'm willing to stick with the game and support new content. This game has a lot of potential, and unlike the doomsayers, I approach it positively.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I wanted to hear.
Isn't a lack of end-game content a given when an MMO first comes out? I mean, I don't ever remember playing an MMO at release that had a respectful amount of end game content. That is something, I have noticed, comes with time and rarely happens instantly.
I've been following and researching this game since it's beta, but have yet to play it due to monetary issues. However, I'm incredibly interested in the game and have noticed that it has earned high reviews (some lower than it probably deserves), and positive responses from its players around the time of the beta and immediately after it's release.

Now, however, it seems as though not a single person playing has anything good to say about it. It's as if since it's release the game has gone straight down the toilet. Why is it that during it's beta and immediately after it's release people were heaping praises on this game then all of a sudden everyone is talking about "how soon until F2P?"?" Because of a cash shop?

Seriously, I want to play this game, but many of you guys make it seem like the worst thing ever. If it's worth playing will someone please tell me before I hock over the money for it? It looks great, and all of my friends that play say they love it, but it seems like 80% of the forum community don't have a single good thing to say.

So does ANYONE have anything good to say about this game or should I walk away before I purchase it this Thursday (payday)?

Also if you're trolling I'll smell it from a mile away so just don't even attempt to contribute your opinion to the discussion if all you hope to do is troll me, cause I'll pretty much just ignore it.
