Server: Leviathan and Asura.

Loved FFXI but man it has completely changed over the years... for the worse IMO.

Going to be buying this game today, will try to hit up some other FFXI vets!

If you're looking for a good place to play with some old FFXI players, then there's a guild on Basilisk Crag called Linkshell that's pretty awesome =P. If you want more info about them, check out their topic on the Basilisk Crag server forum. Or, here's a link: http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/basilisk-crag/topics/Linkshell-Be-a-part-of-the-one-and-only-LS-on-BC
Longer posts are always nice. They give you more information which is exactly what I'm looking for, so I thank you for that.

And ya, that clears up some questions for me. I had the impression that you were RPing pretty openly on a PVE server, so it made me wonder if RPing on a non-RP was common and/or accepted well. But your answer helps me out a good bit.
I'll definitely keep that in mind. And also try to keep up with your journals. Do you openly RP with people on Dragonfall even though it isn't an RP server? Or do you just write about it?
These posts have literally had me smiling as I've been reading through all 20 pages, and it's making me even more excited for the end of the summer when I'll hopefully be playing TERA. I played FFXI for about...2-3 years, quitting about 6 or 7 years ago. It was my first MMO, and I have so many good memories of it, mostly of the awesome community. I love seeing that so many of you come from Quetzalcoatl, it makes me hopeful that maybe someday I'll run into someone I used to know (and btw, if you did know me or recognize my name, message me so we can talk about the good ol' days). But ya, I never hit the level cap (which back then was 75) because I was really young and bad at leveling, but I still had a blast. Hope to see you guys around in a few months, maybe I join one of these guilds if you guys are still around.

Server: Quetzalcoatl
Characters: Zozzie, Tajiushimru, Botal
Linkshell: I was in so many, and made so many that I almost always had no gil lol. The only one I really remember was one semi-successful linkshell that I made called TheEndofVana'Diel. Spelling may be wrong, but it was a long time ago.

But ya! Looking forward to talking to you guys
That's really cool. I've never heard of livejournal before but I really like how you're using it. I'm currently not playing TERA, but have decided that after I build a PC this summer I'll be getting it, so now I'm trying to figure out a server to play on. I'm excited about the idea of RPing in this game, and I may try it out when I get the game in a couple of months.

BTW, I was also reading some of your FFXI posts. I played for a couple of years quite awhile ago. Quitting it was very difficult for me as well, so your experience with quitting the game and how it affected you really struck a chord with me.

But yes, I really liked your posts. Hope to keep seeing them in the future!
Ya, I know after a couple months of SWTOR being out Bioware started having free-to-play weekends where you could try out the game. It would be nice to see that in more MMO's, or using what WoW does and having a constant free trial up to a certain level. But I think part of the reason they are able to do those things is due to their success rate. Maybe we'll see some sort of trial in TERA after a couple of months. But its nice to have the first month subscription taken care of after you buy the game. Seems to be a good amount of time to decide if you like the game or not.

Or, if you know someone who plays the game, just try it out on their PC and see what you think.
I haven't gotten the game yet (hope to this summer). But based on all the other MMOs I've played over the years, the 30 days= 1 month of an active account. 30 days actual gametime would be crazy, I played WoW for a couple years and was very active. And it took me about 3/4 of a year to hit the 30 day mark. So that would be a lot of play time to give away on initial purchase.
I'm with Ritshathra. I'm looking at building myself a PC this summer and so I've also been looking at games to get on the PC. I've been playing MMO's since I was about 12, the last one being SWTOR. I've enjoyed each game, but I've mainly kept playing due to the communities that I became involved in. After so long I would end up quitting each game because even though I loved the people, the gameplay was the same as all the other MMO's I'd played and I got tired of it after awhile. TERA peeked my interest with their first trailer, however long ago that was. And now that it just came out I've been looking into it again but going back and forth on whether I should played TERA, or just wait for Guild Wars 2 and see how I liked that. Each has it's own pros and cons. But this post has helped me a lot with understanding what to expect gameplay wise in TERA whereas GW2 looks to be very similar to all the other MMOs. I'm leaning towards choosing TERA at this point, but we'll see how I feel after a few more months while I save up money.
