Lets see there are two options... BIG open rooms or... hallways.

If they had big open rooms people would say "This place is just a bland big open room with monsters." if they have hallways people say "This is just a series of hallways with monsters." So they lose either way.

no i wouldn't actually as stated before. you can really dress up a hallway and make it look amazing. hell you can even throw in invisible walls to not allow you to run down a hallway you're not supposed to.

but give me the illusion that this place is massive.

look back on my example of WOW for Karazan. All it is, is a tower keep. THAT'S it. but by god it was the best narrow hallway, theater romp roll in the hay with ghost horses and have a sweet boss fight on the edge of one of the towers.

or even more basic. WOW "halls of reflection" was nothing but a giant hallway. But it looked amazing. then they took you out of the hallway as you ran outside away from the lich king. in all respects that was just another hallway but the illusion was complete because there was no walls. and you could jump off the cliff if you wanted to as well.

that's all i want. i don't want them to craft me a city. just spice it up a little.

That's what a dungeon is defined as? Not all instances are bland narrow hallways but when you say dungeon then yeah it's going to be tunnels of enemies with an occasional boss.

i'm ok with hallways if you disguise them and make them look different.

lol between the first and second dungeons that you do. the only difference is there's a ladder in the second one. /facepalm

You know, it's rather amazing that a manor has hallways. Or a cave has, uh, cave-ways.

You've done two dungeons, not every dungeon in the game. Yes, some dungeons are glorified hallways, some are much better than that.

i didn't wanna have to mention another game. but since i'm speaking totally on level design and not content i will.

in WOW karazan is nothing but a tower keep. so you would think all that would have is even more narrow hallways.

and yes you do have narrow hallways but you also climb up stairs outside the keep. run through the areas where the keep animals. you also go through a Theater complete with set pieces that make it look cool. etc.. etc.. hell there's even a boss fight OUTSIDE.

that's what i'm looking for. from what I gather so far people are saying yes it gets better. my question has been answered.

Well that is a raid not a 5man dungeon, granted WoW did have some nice instances.

that's true and from what i've gathered they don't have any raids in the game yet. i'm hopeful they do some grandiose level design :)

I liked the mansion, very goth. I kind of liked Bastion too, but it did get a little tedious. Having seen the pirate area now though, I can see the game design gets far prettier as it goes on. I nearly pooped when I saw those beaches :D

i can't wait. honestly i like this game its easy to get into i'm just a little disappointed so far in the dungeon design. but i'm only level 27 lol.

Aren't all dungeons pretty much glorified hallways? I mean, it has to be linear to some extent. They can change the way the area looks, make it seem more "open", but you're going to be going down a set path regardless.

and i said i'm ok with hallways just make them look more open and expansive. you can even throw in some invisible walls or something.

but its literally just a hallway so far.

I'm not saying there aren't idiots on PvE as well, but in general they are drawn in much greater numbers to PvP just because of the griefer mechanics and how it appeals to them as human beings.

this is true. PVP tends to have the worst of the player community on them.

its rare to find ignorance on that level on a PVE server and if it happens. write the name down and move on.

And when i say like this. i'm saying bland narrow hallways with monsters in them that you must kill every last one of so that the final boss doesn't pull everything in the dungeon towards your group for an instant wipe.

Are you sure you've done two dungeons? Because out of all the dungeons I've run so far (up to Sigil Adstringo), only BoL has a mechanic even similar to this, and even then you only have to clear the mobs in the rooms surrounding the boss room.

And no, they're not all bland, narrow hallways. Cultist's Refuge is easily one of the most visually impressive dungeons that I've been to in any game.

yeah i've done BOL and then the Mansion one.

i still have an open mind but i really thought the level design would kick it up a few hundred notches after BOL. i was wrong going into the second dungeon. but from what people are saying it gets better.

which is good.

I think just saying "level up" is enough to answer, but if anyone else feels that it needs to be elaborated on I will do so.

so feel free to elaborate.

because so far only one person said its different and by different they mentioned a single dungeon.
