I look at it like this - if EME can't take the game seriously then how is anyone else meant to? This game has lore and it has quest lines that aren't peppered with needless puns... if you play it in Korean. EME could have aimed higher than cheap jokes but chose not to.

I'm certain that more of those free period players would be willing to consider a sub if EME hadn't seemingly fallen into a black hole and left the forums to rot. There's no loss of legitimacy to a complaint just because someone's not prepared to subscribe. If anything I'd say "wait and see" was a reasonable response at this point considering the marked change between pre and post launch EME.
fhoeng on 05/20/2012, 03:00 AMCan we wait till around june for this kind of stuff? It is only a few more days.
I have to agree. Let's get through the "free" subscription period and separate the people who are playing because they're bored and looking for things to troll just for "lols" and those who continue to play because they enjoy the game.

Game's not even been up for a month and there's already a cash shop! This was obviously planned... and yet they made no mention of it at all? Sounds like they knew what the reaction would before they even put it up.

Thundercat, please explain how "could we have forum mini police to close detractor/complaint threads that pop up so often?" is actually meant to read as "Well actually complaints are completely fine so long as they are constructive, I was just talking about removing the complaints that I personally feel are spam"?

Because your *opening sentence* states "could we have forum mini police to close detractor/complaint threads that pop up so often?". It doesn't say "If people have a complaint, could they put it in a more constructive manner?"
Your core idea is to create a special snowflake group of fans who get to decide what's constructive and what's pointless.
kimimi on 05/13/2012, 12:47 AMComplaint =/= flaming. Tera is not perfect, and if we silence everyone who doesn't think it's the best MMO ever it never will be.
i dont know what thoughts are running through your head that makes you interpret that i think all complaint threads need to be locked. for the hundredth time:

You're always going to get pointless topics - it's a message board. But there have been other topics with legitimate complaints (crafting system, slow levelling later on, criticism of the quest dialogue, etc). Ignoring these issues doesn't make them go away.
If people actually want Tera to succeed then we need to ditch the "Anyone with any complaint is a WoW fanboy/NCSoft spy!" attitude and accept that some things need to change. The biggest harm isn't coming from the complainers, it's coming from TRU FANZ who stick their fingers in their ears and pretend everything is already absolutely perfect.

Complaint/detractor threads are *very* important, the worst thing EME could do is to shut them down. If they don't listen to why people dislike or are leaving the game then it'll never improve.

I couldn't agree more! These early stages are important for setting the standards, and so far EME's standard seems to be "Anything goes unless someone makes a thread on the official forums that gets so big we have trouble ignoring it".
EME: If you want a good community, you need to send a clear message that some of the awful stuff that comes up in area chat or these guild names like "I did your mum" are not acceptable. I'd report them in game to a GM - only as far as I can see that's not possible.
It's not a matter of toughening up and growing a pair, it's a matter of common respect and decency that doesn't cross certain lines. If these people were saying this stuff to your kid brother or sister, you would be upset, but because it's just pixels it's ok? That's a cop out. If it's not acceptable in any real life situation, it's probably not acceptable online either. Perhaps the problem isn't the people that are doing the behavior but those that allow it to continue by ignoring it and not standing up to it.

Whether anything would ever come of the threat the TC received (and I doubt it) this sort of behaviour should not be tolerated and they should get a suspension/ban for it.
As for the "heat of the moment" counter-argument that I've seen crop up - if you really get so wound up by an MMO that you feel the need to threaten to track down and hurt/kill someone then you need to get off the internet at least long enough to take your meds.
