neosporin's Post History

(( I do understand the frustration and intent of this post. Thank you for making it.

I cannot address some of the issues brought up since, as I said, I'm not of high enough level to travel to all the areas. I do know, however, that if you work a 40 hour job, take time to eat after work, and get an 8 hour rest each evening, that leaves 35 hours during the working week in which to raise the points needed for keeping all of these shops open. Add to that that there is guild business that may need to be handled - so we minus 10 hours a week, leaving 25.

5 days = 120 hours - 40 (work) - 5 (eating) - 40 (sleeping) - 10 (guild bus.) = 25

Using a 5 day week as some of the vanarchs (like myself - work over 40 hours and have family and home obligations)

Many of these areas require 5000 points to keep everything going for a week. Taxes are in place to assist the current vanarach to either recover the funds they and their guild put forth the first time, or to assist in covering the cost the 2nd time. As it has been mentioned 5% really isn't alot. You tip your waitress more (I should hope) when you go out to dinner.

Now, the RP events.

You've never heard of the USO? Look up USO during WW2, during this (and other wars) they provided troops with entertainment, which included Comedy skits, concerts, the showing of movies, etc. Balls were popular back home (my bestie's parents met at one held prior to Vietnam).

So for beach parties, beauty pageants, and the like to be held during times of war...it's not that out of whack. While YOU may not enjoy them, some others may. Why not send one of the current Vanarch a letter with some ideas, something you and your friends may enjoy. ))

I would like to first off say thank you for staying true to the way I wished the thread to be. Thank you, I still don't think most people conceived the original letter was done in character, frankly OOC I have more than enough money, and most areas I don't use the stores, but that doesn't mean others don't. And when it comes to the USO, you're absolutely right, and I apologize. To be fair, I don't blame them for throwing events they wish to do, it's as I've been saying since the first post, I just wanted post my opinion on the events. Frankly I've done some small events, but it's not something I would regularly organize, nor would I ever promise it myself.

As for the Vanarch position, I am only continuing on the subject because the major point it seems that has come out that the job is hard. While I understand this, I don't think it's a logical excuse. The position was made to be challenging. It's another part of the game, and if it were easy, everyone would run. I knew this from the start, and while I did not know exactly what being a Vanarch entailed, I knew it was not just stand and wave at the crowd.

As you put it, I can understand taxes, but I still believe it should not be anymore than needed. Just like endgame, or rep, or Nexus, there's time you have to put in and times you have to be there. While it sucks for it to be that way, no one is twisting your arm to do any of it. And that's what it boils down to when it comes to Vanarchs. It's a fun facet of the game and I love seeing the people doing it and running and hoping to gain admiration, but it's going to require a time commitment, that maybe some cannot do.

Finally, don't think I'm crapping on any specific Vanarch, and I tried not to when I originally wrote this. Almost all of them have done a better job than I would have, and I can admit that outright. I'm not a leader, and I'm not much of a public speaker, so for me getting to that position would have been a miracle, and keeping it would be near impossible. I think everyone got the wrong message, that I just wanted to trash the current ones. It's not the case.

And @Nawrot: I'm very happy you guys set out and made your own. I think you guys will do great, and hopefully won't fall into the same problems as before.

Sooo.. Since /e is coming, and GvG is coming, I wonder when they'll finally say a walk toggle is coming..

Indeed.

I'd also love to see an expansion to our animated emotes. A /kneel and /sleep would be amazing. >.>

I avoid most of the animated emotes though, while RPing, because they look so darn ridiculous.

Habe you seen the Elf male emotes? It looks like they are a formal ball, they do everything with such a flourish.

This is partially to blame for why not many events took place. That and a large number of Vanarchs are guild leaders who are also very interested in having their own events for their own guilds and keeping up with the daily activities of being players in this game as well. While several who were running did say they would hold events why as a server is the expectation to hold RP events left solely to the Vanarchs? It isn't like they don't already have a lot of things they are doing anyway.

I've spoken with a lot of the Vanarchs, and I know the process for gaining points, and in that respect I won't fault them, but I believe there is a line between can't and won't. As for the RP events, I would not expect it if it wasn't the premise of many of their campaigns. I'm sure anyone runing promised low taxes and open stores, but for many the magic that had me voting was the expectation of doing more. And there were guilds that were elected that did not promise anything RP wise for their province, so where is the line drawn? As the first election, I looked passed a lot, gave a small sigh when stores were down or when I saw weird taxes, because hey, your the first right? But there are still events being held on the other PVE servers, which some are worse off than us in terms of population.

We can discuss all day about how hard it is for Vanarchs and their guilds, but no one forced them into the position. They want to be held to a higher standard, then I will hold them to it. And I will speak out when I feel they aren't. I even said I wasn't going to call out any of them specifically, and the first thing I was asked was to name names. But it's a moot point now, the whole idea of the thread has been shredded.

1-3% taxes very rarely even turn a profit on the registration fee, leading to taking a loss on the vanarchy in most zones (places like Helkan can turn a profit only because all 60s go there, pretty much). Many people are going to be deterred from continuing to run because they aren't even making enough money to break even on registration.

RP events, contrary to what is being said here, are not easy to put together on a regular basis on top of making sure they are "quality events" and the grinding of policy points that is necessary to keep stores open. In order to be a vanarch, one must be responsible for not only their own guild but also the stores of the province, and now regular roleplaying events that can't just be "anything" any longer. This is a lot of work. Assuming that these expectations hold, I imagine that a lot of vanarchs will spend most of their time being vanarchs and not being guild masters or players, if that makes sense.

The mount, much like taxes themselves, makes a trivial difference.

While I understand the desire to have vanarchs that not only hold everything open, but also have 1% taxes and do regular RP events that are better than "pageants," "beach parties," and "weddings," I just don't think that this is a realistic expectation. I can now understand why a few of the guilds and their vanarchs are reconsidering another run at office. The responsibilities, and expectations from those unfamiliar with the system, are too great versus the lack of any concrete benefits.

I'm going to answer Citrine because this seems like the person who actually read it and is not trying to just tell me I'm wrong. I have done my research, and while the taxes may not cover the registration fee, where did that money come from the first time? Frankly, while it may be that they are using their taxes only for the registration fee, I find it hard pressed that any current Vanarch can't spare 3,000 gold, and even if they were hard pressed, the smallest guild holding a seat has 89 members. They raised it the first time without taxes at all, so if that's such a major problem to them, maybe they should look at raising guild funds before trying their hand at Vanarch again.

And while I don't expect people to be perfect, and yes they can't do everything, I feel that many completely eschewed what they promised in the first election. Every single one called for lower taxes and open stores, so I would expect to see that much. The RP events I thought were going to be cool and unique to our server, but I won't assume as much in the next election.

And thank you Xaira, you're absolutely right.

And for everyone telling me to do my research, that graph was certainly nice when I read it before my first post, but seemed to only be a snapshot of one day. Granted it was posted a week or two after they sat into power, so they had some time to get everything together, but it's still only one day. In fact, the statistics today don't even sync up with that graph, so really, what research am I supposed to be looking at?

In the end, my letter was a fun IC character thing that represented my characters views of the current Vanarchs. As I said with the taxes, I don't like 3% and above, but I have enough money that it won't stop me if I need something quickly.

Thanks for dragging it OOC so quickly and then calling me out.
Easy enough, I know you are already thinking I am going against the Divines, but no, I really don't have an objection to them. Fairy Tail, in Val Kaeli, has had nothing open I've ever seen. They can blame it on their Vanarch if they want, but they voted for him. The Order, in Essenia, also has nothing up at the moment, which may just be a fluke (we all are offline at bad times), but it's definitely not something anyone wants to see. Also with Eternal Requiem, their specialty stores aren't open, once again it may just be a fluke, but it's not as if this is the first time I've seen it.

And personally, I don't think the taxes need to go above 3 percent. I don't speak for anyone else about this, but I've seen guilds post one percent since elections. You can say you need it for one thing or another, but honestly there's not much excuse, since RP events (which I've barely seen) are pretty easy to put together and don't actually cost in-game money to create, and I've seen no one actually give money or gear or anything back to the people with the exception of Cellis and the High Elves Council. And looking at the RP events within the past week posted on the official forums, there is a beauty pageant, a beach party, and a wedding. That is definitely not RP events in my opinion. One seems personal, and the other two seem like those would not be going on in a state of war where a whole continent is taken, but that's just me.

Once again, I'm only expressing my own discontent. Almost every guild promised RP events, low taxes, and stores open. I personally am not happy with what I've seen.
Dear Citizens,

I have pondered many a day since the first elections. Saw Vanarchs rise to power, and hoped all would rise to the occasion. At the moment of writing, there are provinces that go unaided, Vanarchs unseen, and overall a dissatisfaction I could not have conceived. While they all promised lower taxes and support for the frontlines, how many stay true to even that simple gesture?

I speak today because I want to look towards a future, one where basic promises are kept and people do not just vote for a familiar face. We were promised a show of force from the organizations, that we'd be able to ride with them and stare down conflict together. How many, I ask. How many times have you had a chance to even sit down with most of these leaders? How many times have they thanked you for your support?

Today, I will stand and say, I will not be bought. I will not vote for the person who has the most standing behind him, I will not vote for the empty promises again. I will not give in because it's expected for certain people to progress. We've seen what has become of that, and many of us have suffered due to absence, laziness, and overall lack of respect and care! I will not stand by as the so called leaders of our people flutter about while others want to be in their place, working towards ending the threats in our beloved lands.

Stand with me today. Show the Vanarchs they must care, and lead, or move aside. Show them that we value dedication, creativity, inspiration, and leadership. If they cannot lead by example, then what do we have to follow?

I look forward to the day the War is won. Until then, I'll be on the frontlines.

-Watski Bluestorm

((This letter had the intent to help people open their eyes in the next election. While anyone can promise lower taxes and open stores, how many events have been held compared to the ones promised? I remember people promising events even on a weekly basis, but I honestly cannot even remember one event my character would have had any interest in attending.

I'm Neo, and I'm here on behalf of the Free Guilds Alliance. Our mission is simple: we want people to vote for people they would choose in character, and for organizations they believe in. I won't speak directly against any current Vanarch, but I think it's easy to see which ones care and which ones were just put there. Will it happen again? I'm sure of it. But can we work towards that occurring less? I believe so.

At the FGA, we believe in having people who want the position for more than a status symbol. We want to see leaders elected who want to lead and hold events, not just because it's expected of them. If you're a guild leader, a guild member, or even unguilded like me, we'd love to see you stand with us. The FGA is a democracy, where we can all open the floor for new ideas. We don't want to vote share or buy each other, we want to choose the right person. If this interests you at all, send me mail in-game (Watski) or sign up to the website (http://fga.enjin.com) and let us know you support Roleplaying at it's core, where everyone has a mind and you don't just pick someone just because. I'm glad you took the time to hear me out, and I'll see you all in game!))
All the servers are down. You can tell at the bottom, where it now says server status coming soon, instead of being clickable.
Have to remember BAMs have more of everything, and that includes their balance modifier.
Okay, so I am normally a little off about my writing, but I figured I would throw this out there for people to critique the lore and see if they like the overall roleplaying style. This is by no means complete and I don't think it's the most original start, but it is mainly to set up a backstory for how he made it to the Island of Dawn, and how he's going to meet my RP buddies who already confirmed they want in.

The story (for now) follows a younger Elf named Watski and the mess he was thrown into. He believes in the traditional, old ways of the Elves, and his personal struggles to find meaning while doing his part in the Federation.

A few notes:

  • I know it seems I'm focused on Watski heavily right now, but that's because it's my part of the story. I'll actually be making my character be playing a much more minor role in the story.
  • (I intend to make it more from the soldier's point of view than the leaders, where a lot of my friends want to be more in the know for the plot. He has tasks he must do but he will not always know why).
  • In case you get confused in the jump, the Prologue is set four years behind the first chapter and really is mostly there to flesh out a few things I didn't want to force into the first chapters.
  • I'm terrible at describing people physically in stories. You can beat me up on this if you'd like, but it's nothing I don't know.
  • If you're gonna troll, then troll. Just know everyone will know you're trolling, simple as that.
  • I know it seems the RP is not very open for people to jump in and out, but that's the way I want to do this story. Unless it's a brief appearance, I want fairly regular characters that I don't have to worry about trying to bend the story to their will. This story and set of characters, I want to flesh out more like a book, so some of it has to play to the plot.

    So, here goes:
Also, if you log on at times, you may just find me writing it. Live writing! Boring I know.

If you want to be written in or something like that, just send me a PM, so we can discuss it there. I'm taking all critics, but currently I'm uneasy about taking ideas. Not that I think everyone has bad ideas, but trying to keep the creative content within the players.

I know I seem like a snob about it, but if you look at all the other forums, I'm fully believing I'm going to just get flamed and trolled. So meh.

    TL:DR

If you need a TL:DR, no need to even read the post.
Well, unfortunately Outlaw is a PVP term, and though I'm not trying to bust nuts here, RP-PVP servers have not been confirmed yet. That being said, it still can be RPed out.

Was he kicked out of the Federation due to his ruthlessness? Does he believe the end ALWAYS justify the means? Maybe he was bribed by the Argons, or even he just believes in finding his own way. There could be any number of reasons. Maybe he killed someone who deserved it (a murderer or thief), but that man was connected and those connections gave you a bad name. He could even just be the standard vigilante or anti-hero, who works outside of the law.

Choice in your hands, I'm sure anyway you play it you'll have fun!
