MT just crashed too. Hurray!
I had the same issue. Only thing that fixed it was a full reinstall.. which took what felt like a hundred tries with all the errors in the new launcher.
Does anyone have a pic of it on an Elin?

18 fps is NOT choppy at all.

Running your laptop for hours at 77c or more because you're pushing your system to run a game at max when it really can't handle settings that high is foolish. You're straining your system and shortening the lifespan of your laptop for such a miniscule graphical increase, at the cost of a LOT of performance.

Dat $ per frame ratio.

Because you know how much I paid for it right? You should read. It's Velika, in a crowded spot, that fps is nowhere near laggy.

If NewEgg's prices are accurate, you paid in the neighborhood of $1200-1400 USD for it. Which.. for that price could easily build a desktop that would run preset 6 at a hell of a lot more than 18 fps.

There was no bragging. And 18 fps is enough to play smoothly. You don't need to have a bazillion fps to have flawless gameplay. Anything above 30 is overkill.

You're just kidding yourself now. 18 fps is going to be noticably choppy and far from flawless, and there is no way playing on a laptop running those temps is comfortable. Its just silly to run at max setting when that is the fps and the temps you're pushing.

Just turn it down to 5 and you'll barely notice a difference in graphics quality, and you'll take a huge load off your system.

I don't hate laptops - I have one myself. They simply aren't my first choice for gaming. Way too pricey compared to similar desktops, annoying if not downright impossible to upgrade components, and prone to uncomfortable heat issues. If you need the portability, they're great though.

With that said.. I don't see how playing with 18 fps and temps of 170something Fahrenheit on preset 6 is worth bragging over. Ick. I play on preset 5 with max fps everywhere and see no discernible difference between 5 and 6 that is worth the extra strain on your system and ridiculous amount of heat you're outputting.

You forgot "has glaring bug with extraction process, causing attempted game installs to freeze at 6%". I've been trying for almost 3 days to reinstall the game.. each new patch seems to only create more problems. wee?

Three days, you say? Good thing the new launcher didn't just launch today or anything.

.. you do realize that one could install the game prior to the new launcher being released, right? Derp. Didn't think it was that complicated, hence the 'each new patch seems to only create new problems' comment.

I assumed that the new launcher might correct some of the existing issues I was having - but it seems to have only created new ones, while fixing none of the existing ones. At least the old launcher could get past 6% on the installation before spitting out an error or freezing outright.

I am definitely not xenophobic, I could care less about people speaking in another language in global chat.

However, I am not alone when I say that seeing it in Area or LFG is annoying. I can understand Area being used in place of Global in lower levels since you now have to be level 20 to use Global chat. The problem with the higher level to use Global is that people get used to using other channels such as Area and LFG to speak about anything and everything. This makes it difficult for people trying to actually use those channels to get groups and quest help making them frustrated and willing to turn off chat channels that they shouldn't have to.

Maybe the problem was increasing the level to 20 to use Global but whatever it is, in my history with MMO's, no one uses the channels for what they were truly meant to be used for and it always annoys me when it happens.

Call me a xenophobe if you want because of that but everyone needs to use the channels for what they are for and since you can't really police that your only option is to report and either block or turn off a channel or move it to another tab completely so you don't have to look at it all the time.

In at least one of the russian player's lfg ads, they are looking for a group and asking people to PM them. How is that not using the channel as intended? They're simply looking for other russian speakers for their groups.

What LFG isn't for though, are people's weird off-topic rants about how much seeing a foreign language offends them.

I too remember the early days of US FFXIV. Us Americans weren't treated too well in my experience. Worse yet were the JP worshipers that would defend their rudeness on the forums.

Yep - its not a fun thing to experience. Worse still were the people who would make fun of you endlessly if you made an attempt to learn a few Japanese phrases to try to communicate and messed up grammar somewhere along the way.

It would be nice if an ingame translator tool was offered similar to the FFXI one if they're going to group the entirety of North and South America, but I imagine that is a rather huge undertaking.

Just sad to see the same xenophobic nonsense go on here in reverse, tbh.
